Controlling the thickness of the steel reinforcement cover in GRC is key to preventing corrosion and ensuring long-term safety. Based on multiple project practices and accelerated testing, Qinglong Group holds that the reinforcement cover thickness should be ≥15mm, and must be increased to more than 20mm in harsh environments. This thickness design, combined with high-quality materials, minimizes the risk of reinforcement corrosion in GRC components over a 50-year service life, providing reliable protection for building safety.
Cover thickness design requires comprehensive consideration of environmental conditions. In general environments, a 15mm cover can effectively block carbon dioxide and moisture. In its Shenzhen project, Qinglong Group used laser scanning inspection to control cover thickness deviation within ±2mm. In coastal areas with high salt fog, the cover is increased to 20mm and corrosion inhibitors are added to further improve safety. This differentiated design is both economical and effective.
Construction control ensures thickness accuracy. Positioning fixtures are used to prevent reinforcement displacement. During production, Qinglong Group conducts sampling tests of cover thickness every shift, with a pass rate requirement of ≥98%. For complex components, non-metallic reinforcement or coated reinforcement is used to further enhance corrosion resistance. Through these measures, the reinforcement cover thickness is precisely controlled.
Regular inspection and maintenance are important. It is recommended to test the cover thickness every 5 years so that problems can be identified and addressed promptly. Qinglong Group's GRC products have been verified through long-term use, with stable cover performance, so customers can choose them with confidence.
