The water-cement ratio (more accurately termed the water-binder ratio) is a core parameter in GRC mix proportion design, directly affecting workability, strength, and durability. Based on 28 years of mix optimization experience, Qinglong Group holds that the water-binder ratio of premium GRC should be strictly controlled within the range of 0.30-0.35. This low water-binder ratio design achieves compressive strength of 40-60MPa and flexural strength of 15-25MPa, while keeping water absorption within 6%-8%, significantly outperforming high water-binder ratio products. Through precise water-binder ratio control, Qinglong GRC has achieved a balance of high strength, high durability, and excellent workability across multiple landmark projects.
A low water-binder ratio is the foundation of high strength. For every 0.05 reduction in the water-binder ratio, GRC compressive strength can increase by 10%-15%. In the Nanning Wuxiang China Resources MixC One project, Qinglong Group optimized the water-binder ratio from 0.38 to 0.32, raising the flexural strength of GRC panels from 15MPa to 20MPa while reducing thickness from 20mm to 15mm, achieving lightweight design. This strength improvement stems from a denser microstructure, with porosity reduced from 12% to below 8% and fiber-matrix bond strength increased by 20%. The low water-binder ratio also reduces drying shrinkage, lowering crack risk by 30% and providing assurance of long-term performance stability.
Balancing workability is a key challenge. An excessively low water-binder ratio may cause the mix to become dry and stiff, making construction difficult. Through polycarboxylate superplasticizers (dosage of 1%-1.5%) and optimized aggregate gradation, Qinglong Group maintains a flow of 160-180mm even at low water-binder ratios. In the Hainan Changying Global 100 Fantasy Park project, complex-shaped GRC components demanded high flowability and low shrinkage; precise water-binder ratio control perfectly realized the design intent. This balance ensures both product quality and construction efficiency.
Durability is significantly enhanced. A low water-binder ratio reduces capillary pores and lowers permeability. The chloride ion diffusion coefficient of Qinglong GRC is ≤2.0×10⁻¹²m²/s, one-tenth that of ordinary concrete. Freeze-thaw resistance is improved, with mass loss after 300 cycles ≤5%. These advantages extend the service life of GRC to more than 50 years in harsh environments. Scientific water-binder ratio control is the guarantee of premium GRC performance.
