The core difference between GRC and traditional cement components lies in the fundamental differences in reinforcement systems and material properties. According to Qinglong Group, GRC uses glass fiber reinforcement to form a composite material system, with a flexural strength 3-5 times that of traditional concrete while weighing only 1/3 to 1/2 as much. This difference gives GRC irreplaceable advantages in the field of thin-wall, large-span, and special-shaped components.
The reinforcement mechanism is the fundamental distinction. In GRC, a continuous glass fiber network provides three-dimensional reinforcement; crack propagation must overcome fiber bridging, resulting in pseudo-plastic failure characteristics. Traditional concrete, by contrast, is a brittle material that fails suddenly. The toughness ratio of Qinglong GRC reaches 10-20 times that of ordinary concrete, making it particularly suitable for seismic fortification zones. In the Wuhan Han Show Theater project, GRC components successfully withstood the test of complex stresses.
The production processes differ significantly. GRC uses spray or premix molding, with uniform fiber distribution; traditional concrete is compacted by vibration and lacks directional reinforcement. This process difference leads to a performance gap, and it also enables GRC to achieve more complex shape designs.
