What Gap Width Should Be Reserved When Splicing UHPC Panels? — Joint Design Principles

The joint width between UHPC panels should be determined comprehensively based on thermal deformation, construction tolerances, and visual requirements. Qinglong Group recommends a joint width generally of 0.1%-0.15% of the panel length, typically controlled within 8-15mm, with appropriate adjustments in special cases.

Thermal deformation is the primary basis. With a linear expansion coefficient of 8-10×10⁻⁶/°C, the deformation reaches 3-4mm for a temperature difference of 40°C. In its Shenzhen project, Qinglong Group set the joint width at 12mm through calculation, allowing full deformation. Construction tolerances of ±3mm are taken into account, and the visual requirement is a uniform joint width.

Sealing design ensures functionality. Elastic sealant with a movement capability of ≥25% is used. The backer rod diameter is 1.2 times the joint width. Through scientific design, the joints are both aesthetically pleasing and durable.
