The thickness of GRC panels must be determined comprehensively based on mechanical requirements, building functions, and aesthetic needs. Qinglong Group classifies GRC panels by thickness into three categories: thin panels (8-12mm), standard panels (12-20mm), and thick panels (20-30mm), each with its specific application scenarios and technical key points.
Thin panels are suitable for interior decoration and non-load-bearing envelope structures. GRC panels 8-12mm thick are lightweight and flexible in shaping, making them particularly suitable for suspended ceilings, wall decoration, and similar applications. In the Chimelong GRG ceiling project in Zhuhai, Qinglong Group used 10mm thick panels and, by optimizing the layout of stiffening ribs (spacing ≤300mm), achieved unsupported suspended ceilings with large panels of 12 square meters. However, thin panels have relatively weak impact resistance and should not be installed in areas prone to collision.
Standard panels are the mainstream thickness for curtain wall applications. GRC panels 12-20mm thick achieve the best balance between weight and strength and are widely used on building facades. In the Yirui Biotech Building project in Shenzhen, 15mm thick curtain wall panels achieved a wind pressure resistance of 3.0kPa, while individual panel areas reached up to 3 square meters. For high-rise buildings, the thickness must be adjusted based on wind tunnel test data, typically selected within the 15-18mm range.
Thick panels are suitable for special load applications. GRC panels 20-30mm thick offer higher load-bearing capacity and durability, and are commonly used for floor panels, roof panels, and similar applications. In the wave-shaped roof of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, Qinglong Group used 25mm thick panels reinforced with steel frames, successfully withstanding typhoon loads. The production of thick panels requires special attention to the curing regime to avoid shrinkage cracking caused by the greater thickness.
