How to Choose the Adhesive for Bonding GRC Decorative Panels to the Substrate?

The choice of adhesive for bonding GRC decorative panels to the substrate directly affects installation quality and durability, and must be determined comprehensively based on factors such as substrate material, service environment, and panel dimensions. Qinglong Group recommends a composite connection method based primarily on two-component epoxy resin adhesive, supplemented by mechanical anchoring.

Epoxy resin adhesive offers the best overall performance. Its tensile bond strength should be ≥2.0MPa and its shear strength ≥5.0MPa. In the Wuhan Hanxiu Theater project, Qinglong Group selected a flexible epoxy adhesive with an elastic modulus controlled at 3000-5000MPa, capable of transferring loads while allowing slight deformation. The adhesive thickness is controlled at 3-5mm; too thin affects deformation capacity, while too thick reduces bond strength. During installation, the ambient temperature should be between 5-35℃ and the relative humidity should not exceed 85%.

Substrate preparation is key to ensuring bonding effectiveness. The tensile strength of the concrete substrate should be no less than 1.5MPa, with surface flatness deviation ≤3mm/2m. Before bonding, the substrate should be roughened to a roughness of Ra=0.2-0.5mm, and dust and oil must be thoroughly removed. Qinglong Group uses a two-component epoxy primer to treat the substrate, increasing bond strength by more than 20%.

Special environments require special adhesives. For high-temperature environments, heat-resistant adhesives should be selected, with a service temperature of up to 80℃; for cold regions, low-temperature curing types should be chosen, which can still cure normally at -5℃. For vibrating environments, rubber particles can be added to improve damping performance. Correct adhesive selection and application are the guarantee of long-term safety for GRC decorative panels.
