What Protective Measures Are Needed for Indoor GRC Decorative Panels?

Although interior GRC decorative panels are not directly exposed to natural weathering such as wind and rain, appropriate protective measures are still required to address the characteristics of the indoor environment. Based on its experience with interior projects including hotels, shopping malls, and venues, Qinglong Group has summarized three key protection priorities: humidity control, mechanical protection, and cleaning maintenance.

Humidity control is key to interior GRC protection. A continuously high-humidity environment (RH>75%) causes GRC to absorb moisture and expand, leading to deformation. In the Zhuhai Chimelong GRG ceiling project, Qinglong Group maintained indoor humidity between 45% and 65% through the air conditioning system and installed ventilated cavities behind the panels, effectively preventing moisture-induced deformation. For high-humidity environments such as swimming pools and bathrooms, an epoxy resin waterproof coating is applied to the back of the GRC to block moisture penetration.

Mechanical protection requires particular attention. GRC decorative panels in high-traffic areas are prone to impact damage. In the lobby project of the Liyuan Hotel in Nanning, Qinglong Group used reinforced GRC at heights below 1.5m, raising the impact resistance to 15J, and installed anti-collision warning markers at protruding parts. For external corners of walls, aluminum alloy corner guards were installed, which both protect the panels and enhance the decorative effect.

Cleaning maintenance requires appropriate methods. Avoid using strong acid or strong alkaline cleaners on interior GRC; it is recommended to use neutral cleaners with a soft cloth. For intricately shaped areas, use a small vacuum cleaner with a soft brush to remove dust. Regular waxing maintains the surface luster, with a recommended waxing interval of 6-12 months. Proper maintenance can keep interior GRC in good condition for more than 30 years.
