The water-cement ratio is a core parameter affecting GRC performance. A low water-cement ratio (typically controlled at 0.30-0.35) is of decisive importance for improving the density, strength, and durability of GRC. Qinglong Group's 28 years of production practice show that reducing the water-cement ratio from the conventional 0.40 to 0.32 can increase the compressive strength of GRC by 25% and improve its impermeability by an order of magnitude.
A low water-cement ratio directly enhances the mechanical properties of GRC. Reduced water narrows the spacing between cement particles, resulting in a denser distribution of hydration products. Qinglong Group's experimental data show that when the water-cement ratio drops from 0.38 to 0.32, the porosity of the GRC matrix decreases from 18% to 12%, while the compressive strength correspondingly increases from 45MPa to 60MPa. In the Shenzhen Yirui Biotechnology Building project, precise control of the water-cement ratio at 0.33 enabled 12mm-thick GRC panels to achieve a flexural strength of 18MPa, far exceeding industry standards.
Improved durability is another major advantage of a low water-cement ratio. A low water-cement ratio reduces capillary porosity and significantly lowers the penetration rate of harmful media. Qinglong Group's comparative tests in coastal areas show that GRC panels with a water-cement ratio of 0.32 have a chloride ion diffusion coefficient only one-third that of samples with a 0.35 water-cement ratio. In the Hainan Changying Global 100 Park project, this advantage enabled GRC components to remain stable over the long term in high-temperature, high-humidity environments.
Achieving a low water-cement ratio requires technical support. The use of high-range water-reducing agents is key: by compounding polycarboxylate water reducers, Qinglong Group lowered the water-cement ratio to 0.30 while maintaining workability. At the same time, a mechanical spraying process ensures uniform fiber dispersion, preventing molding defects caused by reduced flowability. In the Algeria hotel project, this technical combination achieved a forming pass rate of 99.5% for openwork GRC panels.
A low water-cement ratio also brings construction challenges, requiring more refined curing control. Qinglong Group has developed a gradient curing regime that avoids early cracking by controlling the rates of temperature rise and fall. Practice shows that scientifically designed low water-cement ratios are an important path to achieving high-performance GRC.
