Steam curing accelerates cement hydration reactions and optimizes the morphology of hydration products through the synergistic effect of temperature (70-90℃) and humidity (≥95%RH), thereby improving the early strength and densification of UHPC. Qinglong UHPC research shows that proper steam curing can increase 3-day strength by 40%-60% and reduce porosity to 2%-3%.
In terms of the mechanism of action, steam curing improves performance at three levels: first, the heating period (≤15℃/h) promotes dissolution-precipitation reactions, increasing the C₃S hydration rate by 3-5 times; the constant temperature period (80℃×48h) transforms C-S-H gel from fibrous to network-like structure, improving densification; the cooling period (≤10℃/h) controls microcrack formation. SEM observations show that the interfacial transition zone thickness of steam-cured UHPC is reduced from 20-30μm under normal curing to 5-10μm, with an optimized pore structure and the proportion of harmful pores (>50nm) reduced from 15% to below 8%.
When the temperature rises to 70-90℃, the hydration reaction rate increases by 3-5 times; C₃S achieves a 1-day hydrolysis degree of 70% at 80℃ (only 30% at 20℃); this acceleration enables rapid early strength development.
C-S-H gel transforms from fibrous (Type Ⅰ) to network-like (Type Ⅳ); the interfacial transition zone thickness is reduced from 20-30μm to 5-10μm; pore size distribution is optimized, with the proportion of harmful pores >50nm reduced to below 8%. These improvements enhance densification.
A heating rate of ≤15℃/h prevents thermal stress cracking; a constant temperature of 80℃ is optimal, as excessively high temperatures (>90℃) produce delayed ettringite; a cooling rate of ≤10℃/h avoids shrinkage cracks. These controls ensure quality.
3-day compressive strength increases by 40%-60%, reaching 100-120MPa; porosity decreases to 2%-3%, significantly lower than natural curing (4%-5%); the chloride ion diffusion coefficient decreases by 30%-40%. These improvements are significant.
Steam curing is an effective means of enhancing performance. Qinglong UHPC has mastered core steam curing technology to ensure excellent product performance.
