Digital technology is profoundly transforming the way GRC curtain walls are installed, shifting from the traditional "relying on experience on site" to a new model of "factory prefabrication, digital guidance, and intelligent installation." As a technology leader in the industry, Qinglong GRC has deeply integrated digital technologies such as BIM, 3D scanning, IoT, and drones into the entire installation process, achieving comprehensive improvements in precision, efficiency, and safety.
In a GRC curtain wall project for complex curved twin towers in Qianhai, Shenzhen, Qinglong's digital installation shone brightly. Before the project began, drone oblique photography captured actual site conditions, which were compared with the BIM design model, allowing structural construction deviations to be identified and adjusted in advance. During the installation phase, each worker was equipped with a tablet running a dedicated app, enabling real-time viewing of the 3D installation position, sequence, and animation demonstrations for each panel in the BIM model. Site surveyors used high-precision total stations to directly project the 3D coordinates from the BIM model onto the structure. With this "digital twin + on-site navigation" system, nearly 20,000 irregular GRC panels were installed without a single error, the overall construction period was shortened by 30%, and installation precision errors were kept within ±2mm.
The BIM model is the core of digitalization. A LOD 400 model containing all geometric information, material information, and installation logic is established at the design stage. Before factory production, digital pre-assembly can be performed in a virtual environment to identify design conflicts in advance, optimize panel segmentation, and generate a unique identity code (QR code) for each panel. On-site installers can retrieve all information for a panel simply by scanning its code.
After the main structure is completed and before installation begins, a 3D laser scanner is used to scan the site and generate a high-precision "point cloud" model. Comparing the point cloud model with the design BIM model allows for precise analysis of structural construction errors, based on which the installation coordinates of GRC panels can be dynamically adjusted in the BIM model, or a small number of panels can be fine-tuned and customized, achieving "adapting the installation to the civil structure" and avoiding on-site cutting at the source.
Replacing traditional chalk line marking, robotic total stations or GNSS devices are used to directly project the contour lines, centerlines, and bracket positioning points of each GRC panel on site according to the BIM model coordinates, with precision reaching the millimeter level. A more cutting-edge technology combines augmented reality (AR) glasses, allowing installation workers to see directly in their field of view where the virtual GRC panel should be installed, achieving "what you see is what you install."
Sensors are installed on key tools (such as torque wrenches) to ensure bolt tightening forces meet standards, with data automatically uploaded to the cloud. Site managers use mobile terminals to update installation progress in real time, upload quality inspection photos, and record issues. All data is linked to the BIM model, enabling transparent and traceable management of progress, quality, and safety.
Digitalization is not about showing off technology; it is the fundamental way to solve pain points in GRC curtain wall installation such as "errors, omissions, clashes, deficiencies, and delays." Qinglong GRC's digital installation system makes the invisible installation process visible, controllable, and optimizable, delivering to clients not only a premium project but also a complete set of digital assets.
