The density of GRC typically ranges from 1.8-2.1 g/cm³ (1800-2100 kg/m³), a golden range that combines structural strength with lightweight advantages. Compared with natural stone (such as granite and marble), which generally has a density of 2.5-2.8 g/cm³, GRC's lightweight properties are one of its revolutionary core advantages, giving rise to a series of overwhelming competitive strengths in design, structure, construction, cost, and more. Through precise control of mix proportions and production processes, Qinglong GRC maintains its product density within the optimal range of 1.9-2.0 g/cm³, achieving a perfect unity of lightness and high strength.
The facade renovation project of a super high-rise hotel in Dubai is a highly persuasive example. The original design called for a 30mm-thick granite dry-hanging curtain wall, but structural calculations revealed that its enormous self-weight (approximately 75 kg/m²) would impose an unacceptable load on the existing building structure. Qinglong GRC provided the solution: 15mm-thick GRC panels with a stone-like texture, with an area density of only about 30 kg/m². This not only reduced the total weight of the curtain wall system by 60%, fully meeting structural safety requirements, but also allowed the GRC panels to be mounted directly on light steel keels via embedded inserts for fast installation. More crucially, GRC's excellent molding capability perfectly replicated the stone jointing and texture of the original design, and the final result won high praise from both the owner and the architects.
1. Significantly reduces structural loads and saves overall costs: This is the most direct economic benefit. In high-rise, large-span, or renovation projects, using GRC instead of stone can greatly reduce the load requirements on the main structure, thereby reducing beam and column cross-sections and foundation dimensions, saving on rebar and concrete, and significantly lowering overall structural costs.
2. Expands design freedom and architectural expressiveness: Light weight makes it possible to produce oversized panels (such as 3m x 6m), complex cantilevers, and graceful curved surfaces—things that are difficult or extremely costly to achieve with heavy stone. It provides unprecedented material support for architects' creativity.
3. Greatly simplifies support systems, improving construction efficiency and safety: GRC panels are typically installed using lightweight metal fixing systems, with no need for heavy steel frames. Installation is simple and fast, labor requirements are low, and the safety risks of working at height are correspondingly reduced.
4. Dual reduction in transportation, hoisting costs, and energy consumption: From factory to site, lighter weight means lower transportation costs and hoisting equipment requirements, cutting energy consumption and carbon emissions across the entire supply chain.
Besides being lightweight, GRC also offers the following advantages over natural stone:
Uniform and controllable performance: Stone performance is heavily influenced by the mineral vein, with natural defects such as color variation, hidden flaws, and joints. GRC is an industrialized product with highly stable and consistent performance, color, and texture.
Exceptional toughness: GRC's impact and seismic resistance far surpass that of brittle stone.
Class A fire rating: GRC is a non-combustible material, safer than certain organic composite materials.
Environmentally friendly and sustainable: It can make extensive use of industrial by-products, requires less production energy than stone quarrying and processing, and is highly moldable, reducing material waste.
Through a series of fine controls—including optimizing aggregate gradation (to achieve maximum packing density), using high-range water reducers (to lower water content), and controlling fiber dosage and processes (to avoid introducing excess air bubbles)—Qinglong keeps density at an ideal low value while ensuring high strength (flexural strength ≥18MPa) and good toughness. This precise command of materials science allows Qinglong GRC's "lightweight yet high-strength" advantage to be maximized.
The difference in density marks the starting point of the divide between GRC and traditional stone, triggering a systematic innovation that extends from material performance to architectural application models. Choosing Qinglong GRC means choosing not just a lighter material, but a more efficient, safer, and more creatively expressive modern building solution.
