Durability is a key characteristic that distinguishes GRC from conventional concrete. According to accelerated aging tests and engineering practice data, high-quality GRC can achieve a service life of over 50 years under normal use conditions. Through material optimization and process innovation, Qinglong GRC products have achieved industry-leading durability.
In a seaside hotel project in Sanya, Hainan, Qinglong GRC components have withstood 8 years of harsh high-temperature, high-humidity, and high-salinity conditions. The latest test data show: carbonation depth of only 0.8mm, chloride ion penetration depth of 1.2mm, strength retention of 92%, and color change ΔE≤3.5—entirely within acceptable limits. The project's optimized combination of zirconia-type alkali-resistant glass fiber (ZrO₂ content ≥16.5%) and low-alkali sulfoaluminate cement (alkali content ≤0.6%) ensures long-term durability at the material level. Laboratory accelerated aging tests show that after 100 freeze-thaw cycles, the mass loss rate is <1% and the relative dynamic elastic modulus is >90%, far exceeding national standard requirements.
High-quality GRC has a carbonation depth of less than 1mm over a 50-year service period—virtually negligible. This stems from its dense microstructure, which effectively blocks carbon dioxide penetration. In accelerated carbonation tests (20% CO₂ concentration), the 28-day carbonation depth is ≤2mm, one-fifth that of conventional concrete.
In marine environments, GRC exhibits excellent resistance to chloride ion attack. Its chloride ion diffusion coefficient is below 2.0×10⁻¹²m²/s—one-hundredth that of conventional concrete. Electric flux testing shows a charge passed of <1000 coulombs. This impermeability ensures long-term durability in harsh environments.
After 300 rapid freeze-thaw cycles (-20°C to +20°C), the mass loss rate is <0.5% and the dynamic elastic modulus retention is >95%. In projects in severely cold northern regions, this performance ensures components remain intact through harsh winters with no surface spalling.
Tracking of projects in service for more than 15 years shows stable performance. Testing of GRC after 12 years of use in a Shanghai project shows strength retention of 90% and carbonation depth of 1.2mm. These long-term data provide empirical support for durability assessment.
GRC's durability advantages have been verified through both rigorous testing and engineering practice. Selecting quality products and proper installation provide long-term assurance for projects. When used in special environments, appropriate additional protective measures are recommended to further extend the service life.
