Through proper mix design and surface treatment, GRC materials can achieve excellent waterproofing performance. The water absorption rate of high-quality GRC can be controlled within 6%-10%, with an impermeability grade of P6 or above, fully meeting the waterproofing requirements of building exterior walls.
In the Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base project, the Qinglong GRC curtain wall system withstood continuous rainstorm tests, demonstrating outstanding waterproofing performance. The waterproof GRC formulation adopted for the project, incorporating a silane-based waterproofing agent (dosage 0.3%-0.5%) and an optimized water-cement ratio (0.3-0.35), reduced the material's water absorption rate to below 8%. Meanwhile, the component joints feature a three-stage waterproofing design: structural adhesive sealing, drainage channel discharge, and a pressure equalization system, forming a complete waterproofing system. After three rainy seasons of testing, no leakage was found on the inner side of the curtain wall system, and the waterproofing performance was highly recognized by the owner. Permeability coefficient tests show a value of 1×10⁻¹²m/s, making it virtually impermeable.
By reducing the water-cement ratio and adding waterproofing agents, the material's water absorption rate is controlled below 10%. Optimized particle gradation improves density and reduces capillary pores. This material-level waterproofing provides the fundamental safeguard, ensuring no leakage over long-term use.
Penetrating waterproof coatings are applied to form a hydrophobic layer. The surface coating bonds firmly with the substrate and offers good durability. Regular maintenance preserves long-term waterproofing effectiveness. After surface treatment, the water absorption rate drops to below 3%.
A multi-stage waterproofing design ensures reliable joint sealing. A drainage system is installed to discharge any water that may penetrate. This systematic design improves overall waterproofing reliability, reducing the joint leakage rate to below 0.1%.
Verified through more than 5 years of actual use, the waterproofing effect is long-lasting. Regular inspection and maintenance maintain long-term waterproofing performance. Such verification provides a basis for design and ensures project safety.
The waterproofing performance of GRC must be ensured through multiple aspects: materials, construction details, and installation. Systematic design and quality products are the guarantee of waterproofing success. Water spray tests are recommended at critical areas to verify the waterproofing effectiveness.
