Complete Guide to GRG Component Delivery Inspection and Acceptance: Test Items and Compliance Standards Clarified in One Article

In interior decoration projects for theaters, convention and exhibition venues, and high-end commercial complexes, GRG (Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum) has become the core material for irregular-shaped space decoration thanks to its seamless curved surface modeling capability, fire resistance, and environmental friendliness. The inspection and acceptance of components upon delivery directly determine the subsequent installation results and overall project quality, and are also a core concern for many contractors and owners. As a professional service provider with nearly 30 years of experience in irregular-shaped architectural decoration, we have systematically organized the core inspection items and general acceptance standards for GRG component delivery based on hands-on experience from over a hundred completed GRG projects, for industry reference.

I. Six Core Categories of Inspection Items Required for GRG Component Delivery

Many contractors only check appearance and dimensions when GRG components arrive on site, often missing several key inspection items and leaving hidden risks for subsequent installation and use. Based on current industry standards and hands-on project experience, delivery inspection should cover the following dimensions: First is basic material parameter testing. First, verify the density per unit area of GRG panels; conventional qualified products must have a density of no less than 1.8g/cm³. Also test the flexural strength of the gypsum matrix; the standard value must be ≥18MPa to avoid cracking during later transportation and installation. Second, verify the content and distribution uniformity of internal alkali-resistant glass fibers; fiber clumping or localized material shortage is prohibited, as this is the core guarantee of the component's structural stability. Second is dedicated inspection of appearance and precision. As decorative components, GRG's surface flatness and shape precision are the core of acceptance. First, check the surface for defects such as air bubbles, chipped edges and corners, and uneven color; air bubbles with a diameter exceeding 5mm on a single component's surface must not exceed 0.5% of the total area. Second, verify the match of curved shapes against the previously issued detailed design BIM model; dimensional deviation at irregular-shaped parts must not exceed ±2mm to avoid misaligned joints and poor fitting during on-site assembly. Third is inspection of embedded parts and accessories. GRG components have embedded inserts pre-installed for installation. Upon delivery, verify one by one whether the insert material is the specified S316 stainless steel with anti-corrosion treatment, and check whether insert positions and welding strength are consistent with design requirements to avoid the risk of insert displacement or weak welding causing components to fall off during later installation. Meanwhile, verify that the models and quantities of matching connecting fasteners and auxiliary materials match the supply list. Fourth is environmental and fire performance testing. GRG is mostly used in enclosed indoor spaces. Upon delivery, require the supplier to provide environmental test reports for the corresponding batch; formaldehyde emission must meet the E1 standard. Also, the fire rating must reach Class A non-combustible requirements, satisfying the mandatory fire acceptance requirements for interior decoration of public buildings. Fifth is batch consistency testing. For GRG components delivered in the same batch, randomly sample 3% for consistency verification of weight and thickness; thickness deviation within the same batch must not exceed ±1mm to avoid height differences after assembly. Also verify the production batch numbers of all components to ensure they come from the same production process, avoiding color differences and uneven performance. Sixth is verification of pre-delivery documentation. GRG components from reputable manufacturers come with complete documentation upon delivery, including third-party test reports for the corresponding batch, production process parameter records, and factory quality certificates. Components involving special shapes must also include corresponding detailed design node drawings. All documentation must be traceable and correspond one-to-one with the delivery batch.

II. General Compliance Standards for GRG Component Delivery Acceptance

At present, acceptance in the domestic GRG industry mainly references current relevant industry standards such as "Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC) Decorative Products", combined with GRG's product characteristics to form general acceptance criteria: First, all test items must comply with relevant national GB standards and the project design's special requirements; matters without explicit agreement must follow the international GRCA general industry specifications. Second, the sampling ratio for delivery acceptance: for conventional batches, the sampling ratio must be no less than 3%; batches with fewer than 50 pieces require 100% full inspection, and core irregular-shaped node components must be verified piece by piece. Third, the disposal standard for non-conforming products: batches with non-conforming items found in sampling inspection require doubled sampling for re-inspection; batches that still fail must be returned in full by the supplier and must not enter the installation stage. Note that GRG acceptance standards may vary slightly across application scenarios. For example, theater spaces with high acoustic requirements will additionally test the surface density uniformity of components to avoid acoustic deviations; GRG components in humid areas will additionally test the integrity of the surface waterproofing treatment layer to prevent later moisture-induced deformation.

III. Practical Industry Tips to Avoid Acceptance Pitfalls

Many contractors easily fall into two misconceptions during GRG delivery acceptance: one is checking only appearance while ignoring internal parameter testing; many invisible issues, such as fiber distribution and insert fastening strength, gradually surface after installation, with extremely high rework costs. The other is ignoring batch consistency verification: GRG components produced in different batches, even when their parameters meet standards, can easily show subtle color differences after assembly, affecting the overall decorative effect. As a service provider that has participated in compiling multiple national industry standards, we also recommend that owners and contractors confirm the testing standards for the corresponding batch with the supplier in advance before delivery acceptance and clarify acceptance milestones, reducing subsequent project disputes at the source. Current mainstream manufacturers in the industry, including professional GRG manufacturers across different regions, all have their own standardized acceptance processes. Choosing a supplier with mature project implementation experience can greatly reduce the communication costs and quality risks of delivery acceptance.

Frequently Asked Questions FAQ 1. Does GRG component delivery inspection require a third-party organization to be present? For regular projects, delivery self-inspection is completed jointly by the contractor and the supplier. For core parameter verification of key projects, a third-party testing agency may be commissioned to conduct sampling tests, and the relevant reports can be retained as completion documentation. 2. Is it normal for GRG components in the same batch to show subtle color differences? If components from the same production batch show color differences visible to the naked eye, it is a non-conforming item, and the supplier may be asked to make adjustments. For components from different batches, pre-layout in advance is recommended to reduce visual differences after assembly. 3. Can GRG components be stacked directly after arriving on site? Components that pass delivery acceptance must be stacked vertically to avoid deformation caused by horizontal stacking. The storage area must be protected against moisture and rain to prevent the gypsum matrix from getting damp and its performance being affected.
