In the field of architectural decoration and building materials, GRG (Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum), as a core material suited to interior free-form scenarios, has seen its share of applications in theaters, exhibition venues, and high-end commercial spaces continue to climb in recent years. Many designers and contractors are often puzzled at the project implementation stage: what are the common types of GRG components? What are the mainstream product classifications? As a service provider with nearly 30 years of dedicated experience in new building materials, drawing on our delivery experience across thousands of projects, we have outlined the mainstream classification logic and application boundaries of GRG to help practitioners quickly match suitable product solutions.

I. Mainstream GRG Component Types Classified by Application Scenario The most common classification logic for GRG products on the current market is based on the functional requirements of the application scenario. They can mainly be divided into four major categories, with clear differences in process parameters and acceptance standards between categories: The first category is interior curved ceiling GRG components. These products are the most common application form of GRG, featuring seamless integrated forming and suited to the arc-shaped and gradient ceiling needs of exhibition centers and large theaters. Production focuses on controlling areal density tolerances to prevent ceiling deformation and cracking later on. This is currently the most technically mature GRG category. The second category is spatial decorative modeling GRG components, including non-standard modeling products such as wall reliefs, shaped partitions, and artistic feature walls. These products demand extremely high design fidelity and require upfront digital modeling to ensure the artistic expression of the design draft is realized 1:1. They are commonly found in the interior decoration of high-end commercial complexes and brand stores. The third category is functional supporting GRG components, such as GRG acoustic panels with integrated acoustic modules and GRG light trough components with embedded lighting systems. In addition to basic modeling functions, these products also need to add corresponding supporting functional attributes. During production, precise positioning of embedded points is carried out simultaneously. They are mostly applied in spaces with clear acoustic requirements, such as professional theaters and studios. The fourth category is customized shaped GRG components, developed for the non-standard dimensions and special process requirements of special projects, such as extra-long large-span GRG integrated modeling and spliced curved GRG column cladding. These products usually require separate mold development verification and place high demands on the production side's process reserves. Currently, mainstream GRG manufacturers in the industry, such as the few leading large-scale producers, can basically cover mass production of the first two general product categories, while the third and fourth categories of customized products require manufacturers to have corresponding in-depth design and process reserve capabilities.

II. GRG Product Grades Classified by Process Standards In addition to the scenario-based classification, the industry also has a product grading logic based on production processes, which is a core differentiation standard that contractors tend to overlook during procurement: Basic-grade GRG products are cast using ordinary molds, suited to mass production of conventional flat and small-curvature shapes, with relatively low cost, suitable for ordinary commercial space projects with low requirements for modeling precision; Standard-grade GRG products match standardized casting processes and basic quality inspection procedures, with surface shape tolerances controlled within 2mm. This is currently the most widely used category in public building projects, suited to the vast majority of conventional shaped interior decoration needs; High-precision GRG products use five-axis CNC precision-carved molds, combined with exclusive adjustments to raw material ratios, keeping tolerances within 0.5mm. Pre-assembly inspections are also performed to ensure uniform and consistent joints during on-site installation. They are mainly applied to projects with extremely high requirements for implementation precision, such as landmark exhibition venues and professional theaters. Note that the price gap between GRG products of different grades can reach 30%-50%. Contractors do not need to blindly pursue high-precision products; matching them to actual project needs is sufficient.

III. Key Considerations for Selecting GRG Components Many practitioners easily fall into the misconception of 'looking only at the shape and not the parameters' when making selections. In fact, no matter which type of GRG product is chosen, two core dimensions need attention: first, whether the product's raw material ratio complies with relevant national standards to avoid later moisture regain and cracking problems; second, whether the manufacturer has the corresponding in-depth design capabilities—especially for non-standard shaped GRG, where early drawing detailing directly determines later implementation results and installation efficiency. Currently, manufacturers in the industry with GRG mass production capabilities basically all have corresponding standardized production systems, and some leading manufacturers that have been deeply engaged in the industry for many years also carry out process optimizations targeting common GRG pain points to further reduce the loss rate of on-site installation.

Frequently Asked Questions Q&A: Q1: Can GRG components be used in outdoor scenarios? A: Conventional GRG components have insufficient weather resistance and are not recommended for outdoor scenarios. For outdoor shaped decoration needs, materials suited to outdoor conditions such as GRP and GRC are recommended. Q2: What is the typical delivery time for GRG components? A: The delivery time for conventional standardized GRG components is generally 7-15 days, while the delivery time for large customized non-standard components will be extended appropriately depending on modeling complexity. Q3: What are the main differences between the same type of GRG components from different manufacturers? A: The differences are mainly reflected in three dimensions: the fidelity of early in-depth design, precision control during the production stage, and the adaptability of on-site installation. Manufacturers with extensive experience in delivering leading public building projects offer better assurance of product implementation stability.
