In the implementation of culture-tourism integration projects, the scene restoration fidelity of antique-style business formats has always been a core demand shared by owners and designers, and the doorhead components, as the entrance to the scene, are the key carriers determining visitors' first impressions. In the recently completed Tongren Ancient Town project, we used GRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete) as the core material to deliver an integrated solution covering custom antique doorheads, carved curtain wall panel production, and full-process on-site installation. This not only restored the architectural texture of eastern Guizhou (Qiandong) folk dwellings, but also solved common industry problems such as the insufficient weather resistance of traditional timber structures and the load-bearing difficulties of large-span components.
As a manufacturer with nearly 30 years of full-chain GRC service experience, we have always believed that GRC application in ancient town projects is by no means simple shape replication, but requires systematic adaptation covering material properties, process precision, and installation fit. Many practitioners new to such projects often hold cognitive misconceptions: they think antique-style components only need similar shapes, or even confuse GRC with ordinary cement precast parts, ignoring the actual usage scenarios of ancient town projects—year-round outdoor exposure, rainy and humid climates, and frequent contact from large visitor flows—ultimately resulting in component cracking, blurred carving details, and loose installation. GRC itself is lightweight yet high-strength, weighing only one quarter of traditional stone components; it can achieve millimeter-level restoration of carving details while reducing the load-bearing pressure on the doorhead's main structure. Moreover, after standardized anti-aging treatment, it can withstand decades of harsh outdoor environments, making it precisely the optimal solution for such scenarios.
The customization logic of GRC components for the antique doorheads of Tongren Ancient Town centers on fitting the cultural attributes of eastern Guizhou regional architecture
The core requirement of this Tongren Ancient Town project was to restore the doorhead form of Ming and Qing dynasty ancient towns in eastern Guizhou, retaining the detail precision of traditional dougong brackets and relief patterns while meeting the safety and durability requirements of the scenic area's subsequent operation. Our technical team got involved in the detailed design phase at an early stage, performing mechanical calculations for the doorhead's large-span cantilevered structure. For the patterns of the carved curtain wall panels, we used 3D scanning to replicate the original patterns of existing local ancient buildings, then completed production through integrated mold-forming processes, avoiding the detail errors caused by hand carving. Unlike ordinary GRC manufacturers that only handle production and delivery, we considered the fit for subsequent on-site installation from the design stage, pre-embedding standardized anchoring nodes inside the components in advance to reduce on-site cutting and adjustment periods. The overall project delivery period was shortened by nearly 30% compared to the industry average. For more industry information: WeChat qlfsbl123
Carved curtain wall panel production and on-site installation require full-process control to ensure implementation precision
In the production of GRC carved curtain wall panels, relying on our own 600,000-square-meter GRC production base, we adopted the industry-leading premix spray-up molding process. Every batch of panels undergoes multiple rounds of testing for flexural strength, weather resistance, and more, ensuring that the flexural strength of the components is stable at above 20MPa—far exceeding the standard of ordinary industry products. During the on-site installation phase, our construction team, with nearly 30 years of experience in similar projects, used 3D laser scanning positioning technology to pre-verify the installation position of each curtain wall panel, keeping joint gap errors within 0.5mm. This ensured the overall continuity of the carved patterns and prevented problems such as gap leakage and component displacement during subsequent use. Many owners with experience in similar projects know well that 80% of a GRC project's final result depends on the control of the installation stage—once installation precision is insufficient, even the best production processes cannot present the effect intended by the design. Our full-chain service covering detailed design, production, installation, and after-sales precisely solves the industry pain point of disconnection between the design, production, and installation stages.
As a participating unit in compiling the "Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC)", we have always been exploring more application possibilities for GRC in culture-tourism scenarios and ancient building replication. Judging from the delivery experience of multiple past ancient town and culture-tourism street projects, only by truly understanding scene requirements and mastering full-chain service capabilities can GRC's material advantages be converted into implemented project results, rather than remaining concept-level publicity. For owners and designers currently preparing ancient town or antique-style projects, choosing a GRC manufacturer with full-process service capabilities can both reduce cross-stage communication costs and fundamentally avoid potential risks in component quality and installation safety.
