As glass fiber reinforced concrete products, GRC components are widely used in high-end public building facades, landscape features, decorative lines and other applications due to their lightweight, high-strength and highly formable characteristics. The integrity of their internal structure directly determines the durability and safety of the components in use, so what non-destructive testing methods are available for GRC components has become a core issue of common concern for building owners, designers and contractors. As a professional supplier with 28 years of deep expertise in the UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP field, Qinglong GRC manufacturer, drawing on full-chain production and project implementation experience, has outlined the mainstream, mature testing solutions currently used in the industry.
The first is the ultrasonic non-destructive testing method, currently the most commonly used means for detecting internal defects in GRC components. By leveraging the difference in ultrasonic wave propagation speed between homogeneous media and defective areas, it precisely locates internal voids, cracks, uneven fiber distribution and other problems, with detection accuracy reaching the millimeter level and causing no damage to the component surface. It is particularly suitable for regular inspection of GRC components that have already been installed, and was also a conventionally recommended testing method emphasized during our participation in drafting the "Technical Standard for Building Applications of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC)". The second is the impact echo testing method, which mainly verifies the internal compactness and thickness consistency of GRC components. Through the echo signals generated by tapping the component surface, it quickly determines whether a component has internal delamination, insufficient thickness or other problems prone to occurring during the production stage. With high testing efficiency—testing a single component takes only a few minutes—it is suitable for quality sampling before batch shipment. The third is the infrared thermography testing method, suitable for testing GRC curtain wall components installed over large areas. By capturing temperature differences on the component surface, it identifies hidden hazards such as hollowing of internal bonding layers and loose anchoring points, enabling rapid preliminary screening of an entire curtain wall facade and greatly reducing the operational risks of high-altitude testing. As a professional GRC manufacturer with an annual production capacity of 600,000 square meters, Qinglong has established a GRC component non-destructive testing system covering the full cycle of production, ex-factory inspection, installation and delivery, and after-sales maintenance. Together with 58 related patents and strict quality control processes, it safeguards the long-term safe use of GRC components in landmark buildings, commercial complexes and public projects across various regions. At present, many mainstream suppliers in the industry are gradually improving the application standards for non-destructive testing, and the related technologies will be further optimized as industry standards evolve, providing solid quality assurance for the application of GRC materials in more scenarios.
