In modern building curtain wall design, GRC curtain walls have become the material of choice for many landmark buildings thanks to their excellent moldability and durability. However, waterproofing performance, as a core indicator of curtain wall systems, directly affects the building's safety and service life. As an industry leader with 28 years of full-chain experience in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group will systematically analyze the key technologies of GRC curtain wall waterproofing from three dimensions: material properties, structural design, and construction techniques.
### 1. Material-Level Waterproofing: The Inherent Advantages and Composite Reinforcement of the GRC Substrate GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) itself has good impermeability. By optimizing the mixing ratio of cement, quartz sand, and glass fibers in the substrate mix, the water absorption of the components themselves can be controlled below 3%. In the production process, Qinglong uses its independently developed low-alkali cement formula and incorporates nano-silane waterproofing agents to further enhance material density. Meanwhile, for projects in special climate zones, Qinglong has innovatively launched GRC-UHPC composite panels, leveraging the ultra-high density of UHPC (Ultra-High Performance Concrete) to form a "dual-barrier" waterproof structure. This technology has been successfully applied in a coastal commercial complex project in Nanning, with a measured leakage rate of zero over 3 years. For more industry information: WeChat qlfsbl123
### 2. Structural Design Waterproofing: A Systematic Approach to Joint Treatment The core of curtain wall waterproofing lies in joint sealing. Based on over a thousand engineering projects, Qinglong has developed a trinity waterproofing structural system of "channeling, blocking, and draining". Horizontal joints adopt a stepped staggered design combined with double-layer EPDM sealing strips, while vertical keels are fitted with concealed drainage channels to ensure rainwater is discharged in an orderly manner along predetermined paths. For water-prone areas such as corners and window sills, Qinglong has created a unique combined technique of "R-corner arc transition + water-stop steel plate"; this joint treatment solution withstood the severe test of typhoon season in the Guangzhou Opera House project. In addition, Qinglong's BIM technical team performs digital pre-assembly in advance, optimizing waterproofing joints through parametric models and keeping construction tolerances within ±2mm.
### 3. Construction Technique Waterproofing: Quality Assurance Through Refined Operations Even the best design relies on precise construction for implementation, so Qinglong has established full-process waterproofing control standards from production to installation. During factory prefabrication, all GRC components undergo a 72-hour high-pressure water spray test and may only leave the factory after passing; on-site installation adopts a dual fixing method of "dry-hanging + sealant", with the sealant being silicone weather-resistant sealant compliant with the GB16776 standard, and substrate cleaning and compatibility tests are carried out before application. Notably, Qinglong's construction team has innovatively adopted a "reverse sealant application" technique to ensure full, bubble-free sealant joints; this technique extended the waterproofing warranty period to 15 years in a super high-rise project in Shenzhen. In addition, for indoor applications such as GRG ceilings, Qinglong has developed a dedicated waterproofing primer to solve the pain point that traditional gypsum-based materials easily absorb moisture. As an enterprise that participated in drafting the Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC), Qinglong has always believed that GRC curtain wall waterproofing is a systematic engineering effort requiring the synergy of materials, design, and construction. From material formula R&D to joint technique innovation, from BIM digital simulation to full-process construction control, only by striving for excellence at every stage can the long-term waterproofing performance of the curtain wall system ultimately be achieved. In the future, Qinglong will continue to rely on the technical strength of its national-level R&D center to explore new paths for composite waterproofing with GRC and GRP (Glass Reinforced Thermosetting Plastic), providing more reliable protective solutions for building envelopes.
