Amid the wave of green building, environmental acceptance for GRC projects is not only a “pass” for project compliance, but also a core yardstick for measuring the sustainability of materials and processes. As an industry leader with 28 years of dedicated expertise in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group, backed by the technical strength of a national high-tech enterprise, has been deeply involved in formulating multiple industry standards such as the Technical Standard for Architectural Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC), and possesses systematic practical experience with environmental acceptance indicator systems. This article offers professional guidance for designers and owners from two dimensions: analysis of key content and implementation of evaluation criteria.
Building the Core Indicator System for GRC Environmental Acceptance
Environmental acceptance indicators must span the entire life cycle of a GRC project, forming a closed-loop evaluation covering “materials—production—construction—operation and maintenance.” At the material stage, the focus is on the environmental performance of glass fiber reinforced materials: for example, the alkali-free glass fiber used in Qinglong GRC must meet the formaldehyde emission requirement of ≤0.1mg/m³ specified in the Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement Decorative Products standard (JC/T940-2022), while cement-based materials must pass radionuclide limit testing (internal exposure index IRa≤1.0, external exposure index Iγ≤1.3). Environmental control during production is reflected in quantified indicators such as dust emissions (particulate emission concentration ≤10mg/m³), noise pollution (daytime factory boundary ≤65dB), and industrial solid waste recycling rate (≥90%), which align closely with the cleaner production system implemented at Qinglong's Guangxi production base.
Applying Environmental Evaluation Standards During the Construction Phase
On-site construction is a critical scenario for environmental acceptance and requires dual standards of “process control + end-of-pipe treatment.” For wastewater treatment, cutting wastewater generated during GRC installation must undergo three-stage sedimentation, and the pH value must be controlled between 6 and 9 before discharge; waste management requires a 100% construction waste sorting rate, and the recovery rate of offcuts generated in Qinglong GRC construction can exceed 95%, achieving resource recycling. Notably, the application of new-type GRC and UHPC composite components can significantly reduce carbon emissions. For example, in the Nanjing East Road Century Plaza renovation project that Qinglong participated in, UHPC light-transmitting concrete technology reduced the use of traditional stone by about 40%, and such emission-reduction data have become an innovative bonus in environmental acceptance.
Expanding Evaluation Dimensions for Long-Term Environmental Performance
The environmental value of a high-quality GRC project lies in its whole-life-cycle sustainability. Durability indicators require that GRC components, under natural exposure conditions, maintain a 28-day flexural strength retention rate of ≥90% and a carbonation depth of ≤5mm/year—corroborated by the 15-year zero-maintenance record achieved by Qinglong GRC in the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project. In addition, thermal performance evaluation is gradually being incorporated into the acceptance system: when Qinglong's GRG ceiling system is used together with an insulation layer, the heat transfer coefficient (K value) can be as low as 0.8W/(㎡·K), delivering more than 30% better energy savings than traditional materials and contributing key points to green building rating systems.
As a vice-chairman unit of the China GRC Association, Qinglong Group has always believed that environmental acceptance is not an endpoint but a new starting point. From eco-friendly formulation design at the material R&D stage, to cleaner process upgrades in production, and green management innovation during construction, the achievement of every indicator is a fulfillment of the mission of “creating beautiful architecture.” Project parties are advised to consult the GRC Environmental Acceptance Self-Inspection Guide compiled by Qinglong before acceptance, paying particular attention to the timeliness of material test reports (within the past year), the completeness of construction logs (including records of environmental measures), and the accreditation of third-party testing institutions, so as to ensure that environmental acceptance is scientific, standardized, and well-documented. Looking ahead, with the implementation of new standards such as the General Technical Conditions for Non-Load-Bearing Components of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC), environmental evaluation of GRC projects will become more refined, driving the industry toward deeper low-carbon and circular development.
