Analysis of Key Steam Curing Techniques and Application Strategies for GRC Components in Low-Temperature Environments

In the field of architectural decorative materials, GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) is widely used in high-end projects such as grand theaters, commercial complexes, and landmark buildings thanks to its lightweight, high-strength, and flexible molding characteristics. However, in low-temperature environments, the curing quality of GRC components directly affects their mechanical properties and durability. As an industry leader with 28 years of full-chain experience in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group will analyze the core strategies of low-temperature steam curing from three aspects—technical principles, key points, and engineering practice—to provide professional solutions for designers and owners.

I. Challenges of Curing GRC Components in Low-Temperature Environments and Technical Advantages of Steam Curing

When the ambient temperature falls below 5℃, the cement hydration reaction rate in GRC material slows significantly, easily leading to insufficient strength growth, surface cracking, and other problems. Traditional natural curing under low-temperature conditions requires a curing period 3-5 times longer, severely affecting project schedules. By precisely controlling temperature, humidity, and curing time, steam curing enables GRC components to reach target strength within 24 hours in environments ranging from -10℃ to 5℃. Its core advantages are: first, accelerating the cement hydration process to ensure early component strength ≥15MPa; second, avoiding low-temperature freeze-thaw damage and improving impermeability and durability; third, shortening production cycles to meet the rapid delivery needs of large projects.

II. Four Key Technical Points of Steam Curing for GRC Components

1. Gradient Temperature Rise Control Technology: Adopting a “three-stage temperature rise method”, the initial stage (0-2 hours) raises the temperature to 40℃ at a rate of 5℃/hour to avoid internal stress concentration in components caused by sudden temperature increases; the middle stage (2-6 hours) maintains a constant temperature of 40-45℃, the peak period of the hydration reaction; the final stage (6-8 hours) lowers the temperature to 25℃ at a rate of 3℃/hour, ensuring the temperature difference between interior and exterior ≤20℃. Through its intelligent temperature control system, Qinglong Group achieves temperature precision control of ±1℃, a 30% improvement over industry standards.

2. Humidity Balance Management Strategy: Relative humidity is maintained at ≥90% throughout the curing process. During the heating stage, a high-pressure atomization humidification system prevents surface moisture from evaporating too quickly; during the cooling stage, steam condensate recovery technology is adopted, saving energy while avoiding sudden humidity drops. For dry northern regions, Qinglong's “humidity compensation algorithm” dynamically adjusts steam supply to ensure curing uniformity for complex-shaped components (such as hyperbolic curtain wall panels and openwork reliefs).

3. Component Placement and Steam Circulation Optimization: Three-dimensional layered rack placement is adopted with interlayer spacing ≥30cm, and steam pipes are distributed in a serpentine layout to ensure heat exchange efficiency. For extra-long components (such as cornices over 6 meters), an innovative “air intake at both ends, air extraction in the middle” convection circulation mode is applied, keeping the temperature difference between the interior and exterior of components within 5℃ and solving the “under-cured core” problem of traditional curing.

4. Post-Curing Treatment Process: After steam curing is completed, components must rest in a 20-25℃ environment for 48 hours for “secondary hydration”. Qinglong's patented “nano-silane penetration technology” treats component surfaces at this stage, enhancing frost resistance and weather resistance. Testing shows their freeze-thaw cycle capacity can exceed 300 cycles, far surpassing the national standard requirement of 200 cycles.

III. Application Strategies in Engineering Practice and Qinglong's Technical Assurance System

In an ice and snow theme park project in Harbin, facing extreme low temperatures of -15℃, the Qinglong team achieved efficient production of special-shaped GRC sculpture components through a combined solution of “prefabricated plant + mobile steam curing chamber”. The project used BIM technology to simulate the curing process and RFID chips to trace the curing parameters of each component, and the final delivered 3,000+ square meters of GRC components achieved a 100% first-time acceptance rate.

As a contributing unit to the Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC) (JGJ/T423-2018), Qinglong Group has established a full-chain quality control system covering detailed design, production and manufacturing, and construction installation. Its Guangxi production base is equipped with 20 automated steam curing production lines with an annual capacity of 600,000 square meters, meeting GRC component needs across different regions and climate conditions. Whether for municipal projects in severely cold regions or coastal buildings in high-humidity environments, Qinglong provides expert-level services ranging from material formulation optimization to customized curing processes.

GRC steam curing in low-temperature environments is a precise combination of materials science and engineering technology. Building on 28 years of industry experience, Qinglong Group integrates its commitment of “meticulousness and excellence” into the production process of every component through technological innovation and rigorous management. Going forward, Qinglong will continue to drive application breakthroughs of GRC materials in low-temperature construction, contributing professional strength to the creation of beautiful architecture.
