As the "outer garment" of modern buildings, the wind pressure deformation performance of building curtain walls has a direct bearing on building safety and service life. For materials like GRC curtain walls that combine both decorative and structural functions in particular, a scientific and standardized testing process is the core element in ensuring project quality. As an industry participant with 28 years of deep engagement in the UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials field, Qinglong Group will analyze the key points of wind pressure deformation performance testing for GRC curtain walls from three dimensions—testing methods, standard basis, and key technologies—to provide a professional reference for designers and building owners.
Core Methods and Equipment for Testing the Wind Pressure Deformation Performance of GRC Curtain Walls
Wind pressure deformation performance testing of GRC curtain walls requires simulating the actual wind pressure environment and testing the deformation resistance of components through dynamic loading. The mainstream testing method adopts the "static positive-negative pressure method," in which a pressure chamber applies incrementally increasing positive and negative wind pressures to curtain wall specimens while displacement and residual deformation are monitored simultaneously. Testing equipment must meet the requirements of the "Test Method for Air Tightness, Water Tightness and Wind Load Resistance Performance of Building Curtain Walls" (GB/T 15227-2021), with the pressure chamber volume no less than 3 times the specimen area and pressure control accuracy of ±2Pa. The full-size curtain wall testing laboratory at Qinglong Group's production base in Guangxi can test GRC curtain wall specimens up to 12 meters × 6 meters, covering the wind pressure grade requirements from low-rise buildings to super high-rise curtain walls.
Testing Standard System and Indicator Interpretation
Wind pressure deformation performance testing of GRC curtain walls must strictly follow a multi-dimensional standard system. The foundational standards include the "Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC)" (JGJ/T 423-2018), which clearly stipulates that the flexural strength of GRC curtain wall panels shall not be lower than 12MPa and the elastic modulus shall be no less than 15GPa. Wind pressure resistance classification is based on "Building Curtain Walls" (GB/T 21086-2007), which divides performance into grades 1-9 according to different building heights and shape coefficients, corresponding to wind pressure values of 0.5kPa to 5.0kPa. "Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC) Decorative Products" (JC/T 940-2022), whose revision Qinglong participated in, further refines the fatigue performance requirements for GRC components, stipulating that after 100,000 cycles of positive and negative wind pressure, the residual deformation shall not exceed 15% of the allowable value.
Key Technical Points and Quality Control Strategies
The accuracy of the testing process depends on three key technical aspects: First, specimen preparation must simulate actual installation conditions, faithfully reproducing details such as the framing connection methods and sealing structures; Qinglong uses BIM technology for pre-assembly positioning to ensure consistency between the specimens and actual project conditions. Second, displacement monitoring must adopt a combined solution of laser rangefinders and strain gauges, with a sampling frequency of no less than 10Hz, to capture dynamic responses under instantaneous wind pressure. Third, data processing must incorporate finite element analysis, comparing theoretical calculations with measured data to verify the accuracy of the mechanical model of GRC materials. In addition, taking into account the characteristics of different climate zones, Qinglong pays particular attention to the impact of temperature gradients on GRC curtain wall deformation during testing, using high-low temperature environmental chambers to simulate extreme conditions from -40℃ to 70℃ to ensure the environmental adaptability of test results.
As a National High-Tech Enterprise and a participant in the formulation of GRC industry standards, Qinglong Group has always taken testing technology innovation as the core of its quality control. From wind pressure simulation calculations in the detailed design stage, to mechanical performance testing of materials during production, to overall curtain wall performance testing before construction, a full-chain quality assurance system has been established. Whether it is the free-form GRC curtain walls of landmark buildings or the standardized cladding panels of commercial complexes, a scientific testing process is the technical cornerstone for fulfilling the mission of "Creating Aesthetic Architecture." In the future, as UHPC/GRC composite curtain wall technology develops, testing standards and technologies will continue to iterate, providing more solid technical support for building safety and aesthetic expression.
