Under the dual challenges of architectural aesthetics and engineering precision, double-curved GRC panels have become the crowning touch of landmark buildings with their unique curved forms. However, their precise jointing has long been an industry pain point—errors in traditional construction often lead to uneven seams, structural instability, and other problems. As an industry leader with 28 years of deep expertise in the UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials field, Qinglong Group has built a full-process precision control system from design to installation through digital technology innovation, redefining the engineering standards for double-curved components.
Digital Design: Parametric Modeling Solves Double-Curved Geometry Challenges
The precise jointing of double-curved GRC panels begins with millimeter-level design precision. Qinglong adopts the Rhino+Grasshopper parametric platform to transform architects' creative curved surfaces into quantifiable digital models, generating the spatial coordinates and curvature parameters of each component through algorithms. Taking a grand theater project as an example, its double-curved curtain wall consists of 1,280 irregularly shaped GRC panels; traditional two-dimensional drawings cannot express the complex curved-surface relationships, while a three-dimensional model built with BIM technology achieved the stringent standard of seam deviation ≤2mm between adjacent panels. This digital design capability enabled Qinglong to seamlessly join translucent concrete with double-curved GRC panels in projects such as the Nanjing East Road Century Plaza renovation, winning the Silver Award of the AALBORG WHITE Cup UHPC Architectural Engineering Innovation Award.
Intelligent Production: Industrial-Grade Manufacturing Ensures Component Consistency
The application of digital technology extends to the production end. Qinglong's Guangxi production base has introduced 3D scanning and robotic carving systems to calibrate molds with precision, ensuring that the geometric dimensional deviation of every GRC panel is controlled within ±1mm. Through the MES production execution system, key parameters such as raw material ratios and fiber distribution are tracked in real time—for example, in GRC material production, the glass fiber content is strictly controlled within the 5%-8% range, which both ensures a flexural strength above 20MPa and prevents stress concentration caused by uneven fiber distribution. This industrialized production model enables Qinglong to achieve an annual capacity of 600,000 square meters while maintaining an industry-leading component batch pass rate of 99.6%.
Construction and Installation: 3D Positioning Technology Achieves “Zero-Error” Jointing
On-site installation is the last mile in the precise jointing of double-curved GRC panels. Qinglong innovatively adopts a “3D laser scanning + modular installation” process: first, point cloud scanning is used to obtain the actual coordinates of the building structure, which are analyzed for deviations against the BIM model; then custom adjustable brackets are used for real-time calibration. In the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project, this technology controlled the installation deviation of the double-curved GRC cornice within 1.5mm, far exceeding the conventional industry standard of 5mm, and won the Silver Award of the first GRC Architectural Engineering Innovation Award. In addition, Qinglong's self-developed RFID chip traceability system records full-process data for each component—production, transportation, and installation—providing digital support for later maintenance.
From parametric design to intelligent production and then to precise installation, digital technology is reshaping the engineering logic of double-curved GRC panels. As a National High-Tech Enterprise and a drafting unit of GRC/UHPC industry standards, Qinglong Group, grounded in 28 years of full-chain experience, continues to drive technological innovation in architectural decoration materials. In the future, with the deep integration of AI algorithms and digital twin technology, the precise jointing of double-curved components will reach higher dimensions, injecting technological strength into the mission of “creating aesthetic architecture.”
