The sealing performance of a building curtain wall is a key indicator of engineering quality, and the connection treatment between GRC panels and metal components is the core element that determines the safety and durability of the entire system. As an industry-leading enterprise with 28 years of full-chain experience in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP, Qinglong Group has developed a scientific and systematic sealing treatment solution through the practice of over a thousand projects, addressing both structural safety and architectural aesthetics.
Analysis of Technical Pain Points in Sealing the Connection Between GRC Panels and Metal Components
In a GRC curtain wall system, the connection joints between panels and steel frames or aluminum alloy connectors are the weak points for waterproofing and seepage prevention. Due to the difference in thermal expansion coefficients between GRC and metal (GRC approximately 8×10⁻⁶/°C, steel approximately 12×10⁻⁶/°C), temperature changes can easily cause interface displacement, and traditional sealing methods often suffer from cracking and leakage. A landmark project once suffered rainwater intrusion during typhoon season, causing mold on decorative surfaces, because elastic sealing design had not been adopted—a typical case of ignoring material compatibility. Through BIM simulation analysis, Qinglong's technical team found that proper sealing construction can extend joint service life to more than 15 years, far above the industry average.
Innovative Application of the Three-Layer Composite Sealing System
Qinglong's original three-layer sealing process of "flexible substrate + elastic filling + protective coating" has proven its effectiveness in award-winning projects such as the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center. The base treatment stage uses sandblasting for rust removal (Sa2.5 standard) and silane coupling agent interface treatment, ensuring a 40% improvement in metal surface adhesion; the middle layer uses two-component polysulfide sealant (movement capability ±25%) combined with backing foam rods to form an elastic buffer layer; the surface layer uses a fluorocarbon coating (dry film thickness ≥60μm) for weather-resistant protection. This system can accommodate dynamic movement of ±30mm and shows no corrosion after 1,000 hours of salt spray testing, perfectly solving the anti-corrosion challenge in coastal areas.
Key Construction Control Points and Quality Assurance
Sealing construction must strictly follow the five-step process of "measurement—cleaning—priming—sealant application—finishing." Qinglong's construction team particularly emphasizes: before applying sealant, a special cleaner must be used to remove oil and grease, ensuring a bond strength between sealant and GRC panels of ≥0.8MPa; the sealant joint width should be controlled at 8-15mm, with depth at 0.5-0.7 times the width, to avoid stress concentration caused by "three-sided adhesion"; for curved components, special bending and cutting tools are required to produce shaped backing strips and ensure full filling of the sealant joint. These process details enabled Qinglong's Nanjing East Road Century Plaza renovation project to achieve zero-leakage delivery and win the Silver Award at the first UHPC Construction Engineering Innovation Awards.
As a co-authoring unit of the Technical Standard for Architectural Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC), Qinglong Group has always made sealing technology innovation its core competitiveness. Standardizing the entire process from material selection to construction control not only reflects the corporate motto of "meticulousness and excellence," but also provides designers and owners with trustworthy professional solutions. In the field of new architectural decorative materials, only by perfecting every technical detail can the perfect unity of architectural art and engineering quality be achieved.
