The Dual Balance of Safety and Aesthetics: Load-Bearing Calculation and Technical Analysis of Suspended GRC Shapes
In the field of contemporary architectural decoration, suspended GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) has become the preferred material for facade decoration of landmark buildings and commercial complexes, thanks to its lightweight, high-strength, and flexible shaping characteristics. However, its high-altitude suspended installation method places stringent demands on load-bearing safety. As an industry technical expert with 28 years of full-chain experience in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group will provide designers and engineering parties with systematic solutions from two aspects: key points of mechanical calculation and key construction technologies.
I. Core Dimensions of Load-Bearing Calculation for Suspended GRC Shapes
The load-bearing safety of suspended GRC components must be built on a foundation of scientific calculation, with core considerations covering both dead loads and dynamic loads. Dead load calculation requires precise accounting of component self-weight (GRC material density is typically 1800-2000kg/m³), connection node self-weight, and additional loads (such as insulation and waterproofing layers), with stress distribution simulated through finite element analysis software such as ANSYS to ensure flexural strength ≥12MPa (with reference to the Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC), JGJ/T423-2018). Dynamic load calculation must incorporate the basic wind pressure value of the region where the building is located (e.g., 0.55kN/m² for coastal areas) and the seismic fortification intensity to combine wind vibration coefficients with seismic action effects, avoiding structural fatigue caused by resonance.
As a critical link in load-bearing, the anchoring system must adopt a "point suspension" or "line suspension" scheme according to component dimensions. For GRC components weighing more than 50kg per piece, a combined system of chemical anchor bolts and stainless steel hangers should be used, with anchor bolt embedment depth meeting the requirement of pull-out resistance from the concrete substrate ≥15kN. The mechanics laboratory at Qinglong's Nanning production base can verify node load-bearing capacity through 1:1 prototype loading tests, ensuring a safety factor of no less than 2.5.
II. Key Technical Breakthroughs in Suspended GRC Construction
The precise realization of complex shapes relies on the coordination of in-depth design and construction technology. Qinglong uses BIM technology for parametric modeling, converting design drawings into production-ready component units, and achieves geometric optimization of irregular GRC components such as double-curved and openwork shapes through the Rhino+Grasshopper platform, keeping machining errors within ±3mm. To address high-altitude installation challenges, Qinglong has innovatively developed a "3D scanning positioning + modular hoisting" process, using a Leica TS60 total station for real-time coordinate calibration to ensure that splicing gaps between multiple components are ≤2mm, meeting curtain wall-level installation precision.
Optimization of material performance is equally a technical key. By adjusting the glass fiber content (typically 4-5% by volume) and the water-cement ratio, Qinglong enables GRC components to achieve high-performance indicators of 20MPa flexural strength and 15kJ/m² impact strength. In the Nanjing East Road Century Plaza renovation project, its developed translucent GRC components not only achieved a 30% light transmittance rate but also reduced self-weight by 15% through special reinforcement design, perfectly solving the load-bearing challenge of large-span suspension. The project won the Silver Award of the First UHPC Building Engineering Innovation Award under the AALBORG WHITE Cup.
As a national high-tech enterprise and participant in the formulation of GRC industry standards, Qinglong has always upheld the philosophy of "building on safety, empowering with technology," establishing a full-process quality control system spanning material formulation R&D to construction process innovation. Whether it is a super-large GRC curtain wall at 120 meters high or irregular suspended decoration in museums, the unity of aesthetics and safety can be achieved through scientific load-bearing calculation and exquisite technology. Going forward, Qinglong will continue to drive application breakthroughs of UHPC/GRC materials in suspended structures, providing more valuable solutions for the architectural decoration industry.
