In the field of architectural decoration, there is often a delicate balance between a material's physical properties and its artistic expressiveness, and the curvature radius of single-curved GRC panels is a key parameter in this balance. As an industry leader with 28 years of deep expertise in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group will analyze the technical boundaries of single-curved GRC panel curvature radius and its core influencing factors from three dimensions: material properties, process innovation, and engineering practice.
1. Technical Limits of Single-Curved GRC Panel Curvature Radius: From Laboratory to Construction Site
Under standard process conditions, the minimum curvature radius of Qinglong GRC panels can be stably controlled at 300mm, a figure derived from thousands of mechanical material tests at the national-level R&D center. By adopting a composite system of high elastic modulus glass fiber (tensile strength ≥1000MPa) and low-alkali sulphoaluminate cement, combined with a vacuum extrusion molding process, uniform stress distribution of the material in a bent state is achieved. Compared with similar industry products, this indicator is at a leading level; for example, in the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project, the Qinglong team successfully controlled the curvature radius of single-curved GRC decorative lines at 350mm, perfectly reproducing the designer's streamlined vision.
2. Four Core Factors Determining the Lower Limit of Curvature Radius
1. Precise Control of Material Ratio: For every 0.5% increase in fiber content, flexural toughness can improve by 12%, but excessive amounts reduce matrix flowability. The 6.5% glass fiber content (12mm length) established by Qinglong through orthogonal tests ensures formability while achieving an ultimate bending strain of 0.0035 in GRC panels, providing the material basis for small-radius bending.
2. Innovative Breakthrough in Molding Process: The traditional spraying process tends to produce disordered fiber orientation when the curvature radius is below 500mm. Qinglong's independently developed "prepreg layup + vacuum bag pressing" process increases fiber continuity in the bending direction to 92%, successfully solving the delamination problem of small-radius components.
3. Mechanical Optimization of Structural Design: Through topology analysis using BIM technology, variable thickness design (minimum thickness ≥8mm) is applied in areas with drastic curvature changes, combined with built-in FRP rebar reinforcement, enabling the GRC sunshade panels with a 400mm radius in the Century Plaza project on Nanjing East Road to achieve zero deformation over 15 years.
4. Precise Control of Curing Regime: A composite regime of 72-hour steam curing (constant temperature of 85℃) plus 28-day natural curing ensures uniform growth of ettringite crystals in the hydration products, prevents microcracks caused by temperature differences between interior and exterior, and keeps bending strength stable above 22MPa.
3. Engineering Value and Application Boundaries of Small-Radius GRC Panels
Breakthroughs in curvature radius bring more possibilities for building envelope design. In a cultural center project in Nanning, Qinglong used single-curved GRC panels with a 300mm radius to create a continuous wave-shaped curtain wall, reducing weight by 40% and overall costs by 18% compared with the traditional aluminum panel solution. Note, however, that when the radius is below 300mm, a special structural verification is required, and if necessary, a UHPC composite layer (compressive strength ≥150MPa) should be used for local reinforcement. Qinglong has now formed a full-chain solution from design development to installation and maintenance.
As a company that participated in drafting the Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fibre Reinforced Cement (GRC), Qinglong has always believed that the technical parameters of materials are not isolated numbers, but a systems engineering deeply coupled with design creativity, engineering safety, and cost control. The curvature radius limit of single-curved GRC panels will ultimately be continuously broken through with advances in materials science and process innovation, but reverence for the essence of engineering and commitment to quality remain the eternal industry principles.
