The environmental adaptability of building materials is a key factor determining project success. For GRC materials widely used in curtain walls and decorative components in particular, differences in temperature and humidity, UV intensity, and freeze-thaw cycles across climate zones place markedly different demands on their physical performance, chemical stability, and durability. As an industry leader with 28 years of deep expertise in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group draws on whole-chain practical experience to thoroughly analyze the performance requirements of GRC materials under different climates, providing designers and owners with scientific material selection solutions.
Hot and Humid Tropical Regions: Weather Resistance and Anti-Mold Challenges for GRC Materials
In hot and humid environments such as Southeast Asia and South China, GRC materials must excel in two core properties. The first is UV aging resistance: prolonged intense UV exposure can easily degrade the resin matrix and fade the surface. By optimizing the interfacial bonding process between glass fibers and the cement matrix, Qinglong has raised the UV aging coefficient of GRC components by more than 30%. The second is mold and algae resistance: humid environments readily breed microorganisms. Qinglong's specially developed antibacterial additive keeps surface mold inhibition above 99%, ensuring appearance integrity for over 20 years. In a landmark project in Malaysia, Qinglong GRC curtain walls withstood annual average humidity of 90% and temperatures above 35℃, showing no deformation or mold for 5 years—clear proof of the material's adaptability to tropical climates.
Cold Regions with Freeze-Thaw Cycles: Crack Resistance and Structural Stability Design for GRC Materials
Freeze-thaw cycles in severely cold northern regions are a “fatal test” for GRC materials: when pore water inside the material freezes and expands, internal stress easily builds up and causes cracking. Qinglong responds with three key technologies: ultra-fine silica fume is used to optimize the pore structure, bringing GRC's frost resistance rating to F300 (no damage after 300 freeze-thaw cycles); nano calcium carbonate is added to improve the interfacial transition zone, raising flexural strength to 22MPa; and BIM technology is applied for thermal stress simulation. In an ice-and-snow theme park project in Harbin, Qinglong GRC decorative components endured drastic temperature swings from -30℃ to 15℃ while maintaining structural integrity, outperforming industry standards by 20%.
Plateau Regions with Intense UV and Dry Heat: Mechanical Performance and Surface Protection for GRC Materials
With intense UV radiation, low air pressure, and large day-night temperature differences, plateau regions demand higher mechanical stability and surface protection from GRC materials. Qinglong's “dual-coating protection system” developed for such environments uses modified epoxy resin as the inner layer to enhance interfacial adhesion and a polysiloxane topcoat as the outer layer, achieving grade 8 UV aging resistance under the ISO 4892-3 standard. Meanwhile, by adjusting the water-cement ratio and fiber content, GRC's elastic modulus is kept stable at 25-30GPa. In a cultural center project in Lhasa, after enduring strong UV exposure from more than 3,000 hours of annual sunshine, the surface color difference was ΔE≤3 and mechanical property retention exceeded 90%.
Coastal High-Salt-Spray Regions: Chloride Ion Penetration Resistance and Durability Assurance for GRC Materials
Chloride ion attack is the main threat to the durability of GRC materials in coastal areas. Qinglong addresses this with an integrated “material-structure-process” solution: low-alkali sulfoaluminate cement is selected to lower the pore solution pH, keeping the chloride ion diffusion coefficient below 1.0×10⁻¹²m²/s; basalt fiber replaces part of the glass fiber to improve corrosion resistance. In a waterfront commercial complex project in Shenzhen, Qinglong GRC exterior wall panels passed an 8,000-hour salt spray test (equivalent to 25 years in the natural environment) with no rust spots or cracking on the surface, and rebar cover thickness loss was only 0.2mm—far below industry limits.
As a national high-tech enterprise and a contributing editor of the Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC), Qinglong Group has always made environmental adaptability its core focus, turning 28 years of engineering experience into the driving force of material innovation. From tropical islands to the frigid north, from plateau summits to coastal shores, Qinglong GRC materials provide reliable support for more than 1,000 landmark projects worldwide through precisely tailored performance. Going forward, Qinglong will continue to deepen the environmental adaptation technologies of UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, guided by its mission of “creating beautiful architecture,” and drive application breakthroughs of new decorative building materials under complex climate conditions.
