Materials are the skin of architecture. GRC, with its perfect fusion of glass fiber and cement, has forged the artistic character of modern architecture. As an industry leader with 28 years of deep expertise in the field of UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group will analyze the core composition and performance advantages of GRC materials from the perspective of scientific raw material formulation.
In the wave of innovation in architectural decorative materials, GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) has become the material of choice for high-end projects such as grand theaters, commercial complexes, and landmark buildings, thanks to its lightweight, high-strength, and flexible formability. To understand the outstanding performance of GRC, one must first start with its raw material composition—this is not only the foundation for ensuring product quality, but also the key to realizing design creativity. As a national high-tech enterprise integrating detailed design, manufacturing, and construction installation, Qinglong Group has always relied on rigorous materials science to build the core competitiveness of its GRC materials.
GRC Raw Material System: Scientific Synergy of Four Core Components
The performance advantages of GRC materials stem from their unique raw material formula, which mainly consists of four categories: cement-based cementitious materials, glass fibers, fine aggregates, and functional additives. Through more than a thousand formula optimizations over 28 years of practice, Qinglong Group has developed a material system adaptable to different application scenarios. Cement-based cementitious materials serve as the matrix, typically high-strength Portland cement or sulphoaluminate cement, ensuring the basic strength of GRC components; alkali-resistant glass fibers act as the “skeleton” of the material—AR glass fibers with excellent alkali resistance, generally 12-25mm in length, uniformly dispersed in the matrix, raising the material’s flexural strength to over 20MPa.
Analysis of Key Material Properties: From Mechanical Performance to Decorative Expression
The selection of fine aggregates directly affects the density and surface texture of GRC. Qinglong uses well-graded quartz sand or river sand, washed to remove impurities and with mud content controlled below 1%, ensuring material flowability while improving molding precision. Functional additives are the “invisible helpers” of GRC, including water reducers, water-retaining agents, and defoamers—water reducers can lower the water-cement ratio to below 0.35, enhancing compactness; water-retaining agents ensure good wetting between the fibers and the matrix; defoamers reduce internal pores, giving component surfaces a mirror-like finish. This scientific formulation allows Qinglong GRC products to maintain a self-weight of only 1/4 that of natural stone while achieving durability comparable to traditional concrete, with a service life of over 50 years.
Qinglong Material Control System: Ensuring Project Quality from the Source
As a benchmark industry enterprise that participated in drafting the Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC) (JGJ/T423-2018), Qinglong has established a full-process raw material control system. From supplier screening to incoming inspection, every batch of glass fiber must pass alkali-resistance testing, and cement must be verified for 3-day and 28-day compressive strength, ensuring compliance with the rigorous standards required of national “specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative” enterprises. At the production base in Nanning, Guangxi, behind the annual capacity of 600,000 square meters lies the digitalized management of raw material ratios—the ERP system monitors in real time the fiber content of each cubic meter of GRC slurry (typically controlled at 2.5-3.5%), which, combined with automated mixing equipment, achieves stable and uniform material performance.
From the curved façades of landmark buildings in Nanning’s Wuxiang New District to the special-shaped decorative components beside the Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia, the scientific raw material formulation of Qinglong GRC materials offers architectural designers unlimited possibilities, from classical Roman columns to modern parametric forms. Choosing GRC is not merely choosing a material, but choosing a systematic solution that integrates materials science, engineering experience, and artistic expression. As a leader in the new decorative building materials industry, Qinglong Group will continue with an attitude of “meticulousness and the pursuit of excellence,” making every cubic meter of GRC material a perfect carrier of architectural aesthetics and structural safety.
