In the field of modern architectural decoration, GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete), with its lightweight, high-strength and flexible formability, has become an ideal choice for high-end buildings such as grand theaters and commercial complexes. As the core component of GRC materials, the performance of alkali-resistant glass fiber directly determines the durability and safety of GRC components. Qinglong, a GRC manufacturer with 28 years of experience, will analyze GRC's core material system and the key requirements for alkali-resistant glass fiber from two aspects: material composition and technical standards.
Core Composition of GRC Materials: Scientific Proportioning from Matrix to Reinforcement
GRC materials consist of four core components: cement matrix, glass fiber, admixtures and aggregates. The cement matrix typically uses rapid-hardening sulphoaluminate cement or ordinary Portland cement to ensure the material's early strength and overall stability; aggregates are mainly quartz sand, with optimized gradation to improve concrete density; admixtures include water reducers, early-strength agents, etc., which improve workability and mechanical indicators. Alkali-resistant glass fiber, as the "backbone" of GRC, accounts for only about 3%-5% of the material volume yet bears over 70% of the load; its quality directly affects the flexural strength, impact resistance and durability of GRC components.
Performance Requirements for Alkali-Resistant Glass Fiber: The Core Guarantee of GRC Durability
When producing GRC components, Qinglong has established strict technical standards for alkali-resistant glass fiber, which can be summarized as the "Three Highs" requirements:
First, high alkali resistance. Since the cement matrix releases alkaline substances during hydration, ordinary glass fiber is prone to alkali corrosion leading to performance degradation. Qinglong uses alkali-resistant glass fiber with a zirconia content of ≥16%. Accelerated aging tests have verified that its 28-day strength retention rate in alkaline environments can reach over 85%, ensuring a service life of more than 50 years for GRC components.
Second, high tensile strength. Premium alkali-resistant glass fiber must have a monofilament tensile strength of ≥1500MPa and an elastic modulus stable at 70-80GPa to effectively transfer loads and prevent cracking of components under long-term stress. By partnering with international suppliers, Qinglong strictly controls fiber diameter deviation within ±3μm to ensure uniformity of mechanical properties.
Third, high dispersibility and interface compatibility. Fibers must be evenly distributed in the cement matrix to form a three-dimensional reinforcement network. Qinglong uses chopped fibers treated with a specially formulated sizing agent, with length controlled at 12-25mm, ensuring tight bonding between fibers and cement paste with an interface bond strength of ≥3.5MPa, effectively preventing fiber-matrix debonding.
Qinglong's Full-Chain GRC Advantages: Quality Control from Materials to Engineering
As a National High-Tech Enterprise, Qinglong not only maintains strict control over material selection but also safeguards GRC project quality through full-chain services. From BIM parametric modeling in the detailed design stage, to automated material distribution and steam curing in production, and further to 3D laser positioning during construction and installation, Qinglong has established a whole-process quality control system covering "design-production-construction-maintenance". For example, in the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project, Qinglong adopted a composite technology of alkali-resistant glass fiber and UHPC to create shaped GRC curtain wall panels with an 8-meter span, meeting both the design requirements and structural safety. The project won the Silver Award at the first GRC Construction Engineering Innovation Awards.
When choosing GRC materials, the key lies in selecting a reliable material system and technical team. Backed by 28 years of industry experience, Qinglong integrates the performance requirements of alkali-resistant glass fiber into every production step, providing designers and owners with GRC solutions that combine aesthetic value with structural safety. Going forward, Qinglong will continue to focus on the innovative research and development of UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, promoting the application of new architectural decoration materials in more landmark projects.
