How to Ensure Wind Load Resistance of Super-High Double-Curved GRC Panels: Key Technology Analysis of Design, Materials and Construction

Under the dual considerations of modern architectural aesthetics and engineering safety, super-high double-curved GRC panels have become the preferred material for landmark building envelope design thanks to their unique curved forms and lightweight, high-strength characteristics. However, facing the rigorous test of strong wind loads at height, how to ensure wind resistance across the entire chain from design origin to construction implementation is a core concern shared by the industry. As an industry leader with 28 years of deep expertise in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group has leveraged its full-chain technical strength to build a wind load resistance solution system covering material R&D, structural optimization, and construction control.

1. Materials Science: The Performance Foundation of Double-Curved GRC Wind Load Resistance

The wind load resistance of glass fibre reinforced concrete (GRC) depends first on the mechanical properties of the material itself. Through customised fibre ratios and matrix optimization technology, Qinglong enables double-curved GRC panels to achieve a stable flexural strength of over 20MPa and a 15% increase in elastic modulus, demonstrating excellent crack resistance and deformation recovery under alternating strong wind loads. Compared with traditional cement products, Qinglong GRC panels, by incorporating alkali-resistant glass fibres and polymer modifiers, control the surface density at 180-220kg/㎡, reducing weight by more than 60% compared with stone curtain walls and greatly reducing additional structural forces under wind loads. In addition, accelerated aging tests have verified that the panels withstand more than 300 freeze-thaw cycles, and their weather resistance meets long-term use requirements in coastal environments with high humidity and strong UV exposure, providing reliable material-level assurance for wind load resistance.

2. Structural Design: Optimising Wind Load Transfer in Double-Curved Forms

While delivering aesthetic expression, the curved form of double-curved GRC panels also brings complex effects on wind load distribution. Relying on a BIM parametric design platform, Qinglong has established an integrated design process of 'wind pressure simulation - structural calculation - joint optimization': CFD wind tunnel simulation technology is used to precisely analyse wind pressure coefficients at different heights and curvature radii, identifying wind-load-sensitive areas such as corners and overhanging eaves; finite element analysis software is used to calculate the stress and strain of double-curved panels, optimising reinforcement schemes and panel thickness to ensure that the maximum deflection under Category 12 typhoon loads does not exceed L/250 (L is the panel span); the innovatively developed 'concealed stainless steel connector + elastic cushioning layer' joint system achieves 360° three-dimensional adjustment while dissipating wind vibration energy through elastic deformation, avoiding stress concentration caused by rigid connections. In a coastal landmark project, Qinglong's design solution enabled the double-curved GRC curtain wall system to successfully withstand the impact of instantaneous Category 14 winds.

3. Construction Control: Precision Management from Factory Prefabrication to On-Site Installation

The final realisation of wind load resistance depends on refined construction control. Qinglong adopts a 'factory prefabrication + on-site assembly' model, achieving standardised production of double-curved GRC panels at its production base in Nanning, Guangxi: CNC-carved moulds ensure surface precision errors of ≤2mm, and vacuum forming processes improve panel density; each panel undergoes sampling tests of flexural load-bearing capacity before leaving the factory and is embedded with an RFID chip for full life-cycle traceability. During the on-site installation stage, 3D laser scanning technology is used for benchmark positioning, combined with customised lifting fixtures, ensuring panel joint gaps of ≤3mm and installation verticality deviations of ≤5mm/2m. For the characteristics of high-altitude operations, Qinglong developed a 'segmented scaffolding + load-relief support system' that disperses temporary loads and transfers them to the main structure during typhoon season construction, avoiding wind-induced vibration risks during the construction stage.

From micro-level optimization of material formulations to macro-level design of structural systems, and from precision control in factory prefabrication to dynamic adjustment in on-site installation, Qinglong Group has built a systematic solution for the wind load resistance of super-high double-curved GRC panels with 28 years of full-chain experience. As a national high-tech enterprise and a participant in GRC industry standard development, Qinglong has always deeply integrated engineering safety with innovative technology, not only providing reliable technical support for realising architects' creative visions but also contributing professional strength to the safety of envelope systems for super high-rise and large-span buildings. In the future, with the further development of UHPC and GRC composite technology, Qinglong will continue to drive breakthroughs in core performance such as wind load resistance and durability of architectural decoration materials, helping to realise the corporate mission of 'Creating Beautiful Architecture'.
