Innovations in building materials often lead the evolution of urban form. UHPC (Ultra-High Performance Concrete), a new material that has attracted widespread attention in recent years, is reshaping the future of the construction industry with its outstanding performance. As an industry player with 28 years of dedicated experience in the UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials field, Qinglong Group has witnessed and driven the entire journey of this material from the laboratory to large-scale engineering applications. Currently, UHPC technology is making breakthroughs in three major directions—functional integration, customized design, and diversified application scenarios—bringing unprecedented solutions to architects and building owners.
1. Functional Integration: From Single Load-Bearing to Multi-Performance Integration
Traditional building materials are often limited to a single function, while the new generation of UHPC technology, through optimized material formulations and process innovation, has achieved multidimensional breakthroughs in structural strength, durability, and functionality. For example, in the renovation of Century Plaza on Nanjing East Road, the light-transmitting UHPC components developed by the Qinglong team combined structural load-bearing with artistic light transmission, meeting the mechanical requirements of a large-span cantilever while creating a unique spatial experience through the interplay of light and shadow; the project won the Silver Award in the first AALBORG WHITE Cup UHPC Architectural Engineering Innovation Awards. In addition, by incorporating functional fibers and nanomaterials, UHPC has achieved special properties such as self-healing, antibacterial action, and electromagnetic shielding, showing great potential in settings such as medical buildings and data centers. As a participating unit in drafting the industry standard “General Technical Conditions for Non-Load-Bearing Components of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC)”, Qinglong is promoting the standardization of such innovative applications.
2. Design Customization: Parametric Design Powering a Form Revolution
The ultra-high compressive strength of UHPC (over 200MPa) and its excellent plasticity make it an ideal medium for realizing complex architectural forms. In the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project, the Qinglong team used the Rhino+Grasshopper parametric design platform to translate the architect's curved-surface vision into GRC/UHPC composite components with an accuracy of ±2mm, ultimately achieving a fluid “wave” facade effect; the project won the Silver Award of the GRC Architectural Engineering Innovation Award. With the integration of BIM technology and 3D printing processes, UHPC component production is shifting from “standardized molds” to “digital intelligent manufacturing”, not only shortening the production cycle for complex forms but also reducing customization costs. Qinglong's 600,000-square-meter intelligent production base has achieved full-process digital management and control from design development to construction and installation, providing designers with “one-stop” technical support from concept to completion.
3. Diversified Application Scenarios: From Landmark Buildings to Public Livelihood Projects
The application boundaries of UHPC technology are constantly expanding. Beyond the traditional field of high-end public buildings, its value in public livelihood projects such as municipal works, transportation, and landscaping is increasingly prominent. In bridge engineering, ultra-thin UHPC paving layers can reduce a bridge deck's dead weight by 30% while improving durability; in sponge city construction, permeable UHPC components provide the ecological functions of rainwater collection and purification; in the renovation of old buildings, UHPC reinforcement systems can improve seismic resistance without adding structural loads. In the multiple metro projects Qinglong has participated in, UHPC decorative panels have become the preferred solution for underground space interiors thanks to their fire resistance, weather resistance, and ease of cleaning. Notably, the composite application of UHPC with materials such as GRC, GRG, and GRP is creating synergistic advantages—for example, the UHPC-GRG composite ceiling system combines structural strength with acoustic optimization and is widely used in concert halls, convention centers, and similar venues.
As a national high-tech enterprise and a specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative enterprise, Qinglong Group has always taken “creating beautiful architecture” as its mission, turning 28 years of full-chain experience into a driving force for technological innovation. From participating in drafting the “Technical Standard for Architectural Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC)” to promoting the international adoption of UHPC materials, Qinglong is fulfilling its vision of “becoming a world-class leading manufacturer of UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP” with professional strength. In the future, as material technology continues to advance and application scenarios deepen and expand, UHPC will be not only a building material but also a core link connecting artistic creativity with engineering realization, injecting more possibilities into urban construction.
