In the field of architectural decoration, GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) has become the ideal choice for exterior wall decoration of numerous landmark buildings thanks to its lightweight, high-strength, and flexible shaping properties. However, the quality of fixing after GRC installation directly affects building safety and service life, yet the professionalism and standardization of this stage are often overlooked. As an industry-leading enterprise with 28 years of full-chain experience in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group will analyze the core points of GRC installation and fixing from a technical perspective, providing practical and professional solutions for designers and contractors.
Design Logic of GRC Fixing Systems: From Material Properties to Structural Safety
The fixing of GRC components must take into account both the material's self-weight (typically 80-120kg/m²) and external loads (wind loads and seismic actions), and the fixing system design must follow the principle of "flexible connection, rigid restraint." During the detailed design stage, Qinglong uses BIM modeling to simulate stress conditions and selects suitable fixing solutions based on component dimensions (e.g., large hanging panels over 1.5m require no fewer than 4 fixing points), installation height (elevated installation requires consideration of the dynamic load amplification factor), and substrate structure (concrete walls, steel structural frames, etc.). For example, in a commercial complex project in Nanjing, Qinglong adopted a combined system of stainless steel undercut anchors and aluminum alloy hangers, which not only met the wind load resistance requirements at a height of 30m but also absorbed thermal deformation stress through elastic washers.
Standardized Process of Fixing Construction: From Substrate Treatment to Acceptance Standards
Substrate treatment is the foundation of GRC fixing. The flatness error of the substrate must be ≤5mm/2m, and the position deviation of embedded parts must be controlled within ±10mm. The Qinglong construction team first performs 3D laser scanning for positioning and uses specialized cleaning agents to remove dust and oil stains from the substrate. For concrete substrates, chemical anchors must be embedded (embedding depth no less than 10d, where d is the bolt diameter), while for steel structural substrates, welded connectors are used with anti-corrosion treatment. During installation, adjustable hangers enable 3D fine-tuning (adjustments of ±20mm, ±15mm, and ±10mm along the X/Y/Z axes respectively), ensuring joint errors ≤2mm. Finally, non-shrink grout is used to fill the fixing gaps, forming a rigid force transfer system.
Key Considerations: Concealed Works and Quality Control Points
The durability of fixing nodes is the core of long-term safety for GRC systems. Qinglong requires all metal connectors to be made of 316 stainless steel (for coastal projects) or hot-dip galvanized (for inland projects), with anti-corrosion isolation washers placed at contact surfaces. For projects exceeding 50m in height, pull-out force testing is mandatory (1 group sampled per 500 connectors, pull-out force ≥5kN). In addition, after fixing is completed, a water spray test (lasting 1 hour to check for leakage) and vibration testing (simulating seismic loads) are required to ensure the system's stability under extreme conditions. This attention to detail enabled Qinglong's Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project to achieve a zero-repair record, winning the first GRC Construction Engineering Innovation Award.
As an enterprise that participated in drafting the Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC), Qinglong has always believed that GRC installation and fixing is not merely a construction stage, but a comprehensive reflection of material performance, structural mechanics, and engineering experience. From node optimization in the detailed design stage, to millimeter-level precision control during construction, and full life-cycle management in later maintenance, the systematic solutions of professional manufacturers are the key to ensuring safe and aesthetically pleasing GRC projects. Only by choosing a supplier with full-chain service capabilities can GRC materials truly realize their value advantages in architectural decoration.
