Among the many performance indicators of GRC (glass fiber reinforced cement) components, “strength” is undoubtedly the most closely watched fundamental and core attribute. Whether resisting wind pressure and snow loads, or ensuring component safety during transportation, installation and use, sufficient mechanical strength is the primary prerequisite. As a result, many project owners ask directly: which GRC manufacturer's products have high strength? However, understanding the scientific meaning of GRC strength, the criteria for evaluating it, and its relationship to real engineering safety is more important than simply comparing a number. Starting from materials science and engineering practice, Qinglong GRC provides you with an in-depth interpretation of the essence of GRC strength and the path to achieving high strength.
First, the scope of “strength” for GRC must be scientifically defined. For architectural cladding panels and decorative components, the most critical property is “flexural strength” (also called modulus of rupture), which reflects the material's ability to resist bending deformation and fracture. Currently, high-quality GRC products are generally required to achieve a flexural strength of 18MPa or above, and industry-leading levels can exceed 25MPa. This is far higher than ordinary concrete and enables thinner, lighter designs with larger spans. The flexural strength of Qinglong GRC's standard products is consistently above 18MPa, and through mix proportion optimization and process control, customized higher-strength products can be provided according to project needs, meeting the requirements of special locations or extreme load conditions.
The key to achieving and maintaining consistently high strength lies in “composite materials science and precise process control”. The high strength of GRC does not come from a single component, but from the synergy of the cement matrix, alkali-resistant glass fibers and active mineral admixtures. Among these, the content, length and dispersion uniformity of the glass fibers, as well as their bond strength with the cement matrix, are the decisive factors for flexural strength. Inferior products often cut costs by reducing fiber content, causing strength to drop substantially. Qinglong GRC uses high-standard alkali-resistant glass fibers and ensures their uniform distribution through powerful mixing processes. At the same time, a vacuum dewatering process reduces water and pores, combined with a scientific steam curing regime that fully activates the cementitious materials, thereby obtaining a dense, high-strength matrix that provides a solid anchorage for the fibers.
More importantly, high strength must develop in tandem with “high toughness” and “durability”. Simply pursuing extremely high flexural strength figures can sometimes come at the cost of the material's toughness and long-term durability. For example, excessive cement content or improper curing may lead to increased autogenous shrinkage, which in turn raises the risk of early cracking. High-quality GRC products pursue the optimal balance of strength, toughness and durability. By incorporating special toughening components and optimizing curing curves, Qinglong GRC ensures high strength while giving its products excellent impact resistance and crack resistance, ensuring an extremely low rate of strength degradation over long-term use and truly achieving the unity of safety and durability.
Therefore, to judge whether a GRC manufacturer's products are truly “high” in strength, one should not rely solely on marketing claims but should conduct systematic verification: First, require the manufacturer to provide third-party test reports certified by authoritative bodies such as CNAS, focusing on data such as flexural strength and compressive strength, and confirming the testing standard (e.g., JC/T 940). Second, examine the key stages of its production process concerning fiber dispersion, compaction control and curing. Third, review its actual application cases and long-term performance feedback in projects with high strength requirements (such as large-span sunshades and areas subject to high wind pressure on high-rise buildings). Qinglong GRC is willing to accept any rigorous scrutiny of product strength with transparent data, mature processes and an extensive project track record. We firmly believe that only strength that withstands scientific verification and engineering tests is the truly reliable cornerstone of building safety.
