The minimum achievable curvature radius of single-curved GRC panels is an important indicator of a manufacturer's technical capability, and it is jointly constrained by material performance, production processes, and mold technology. Based on Qinglong Group's 28 years of production experience, single-curved GRC panels produced with standard processes typically achieve a minimum stable curvature radius of 15-20 times the panel thickness. For example, a standard 15mm-thick GRC panel can reach a minimum curvature radius of 225-300mm. With special formulations and process optimization, this limit can be pushed even lower.
The main factors limiting the minimum curvature radius are the flexural performance of the GRC material itself and the risk of cracking. When a panel bends, the fibers on the outer side are in tension while those on the inner side are in compression. The smaller the curvature radius, the greater the tensile stress on the outer side. When the tensile stress exceeds the tensile limit of the GRC matrix, microcracks will appear on the panel surface. By optimizing fiber content (typically 3%-5% glass fiber by volume), using a high-strength cement matrix and ultra-fine admixtures, Qinglong has significantly improved the material's tensile strength and ultimate strain, thereby supporting smaller bending radii.
The production process is critical to achieving small-radius curvatures. When producing high-curvature components, Qinglong adopts a layered spray-up process, controlling the thickness of each slurry layer to ensure that fibers remain evenly distributed in the curved areas. The curing stage after demolding also requires particular care: small-radius components experience greater internal-to-external humidity gradients during drying and are more prone to deformation or cracking caused by uneven shrinkage. Qinglong applies a staged steam curing regime with slow heating and cooling to release internal stresses to the greatest extent possible.
It is worth emphasizing that mold precision is the foundation. To produce components below R300mm, the mold itself must have extremely high surface accuracy. Qinglong uses CNC precision-machined GRP molds or epoxy resin molds to ensure the accuracy and smoothness of the mold curvature. Meanwhile, for special requirements involving ultra-small radii (e.g., R<200mm), Qinglong advises customers to consider GRG (gypsum-based) material, which offers greater advantages in achieving sharp transitions, or a solution combining GRC with partial metal or GRP, which controls risk while ensuring the desired effect.
