The strength development rate of UHPC far exceeds that of ordinary concrete, which is one of its significant advantages. However, its strength development process is closely related to curing conditions (temperature and humidity). Under standard curing conditions (20±2°C, humidity ≥95%), high-quality UHPC can typically reach the strength required for formwork removal (approximately 40-60 MPa) within 12-24 hours, achieve over 80% of its design strength within 3-7 days, and fully reach and even exceed the design value at 28 days. Thanks to its optimized active admixture system, Qinglong Group's UHPC products exhibit particularly rapid early strength development.
UHPC's early strength characteristics benefit from its extremely low water-binder ratio and the pozzolanic effect of ultra-fine admixtures such as silica fume. Cement hydration proceeds rapidly, and micro-fine particles fill the pores, quickly densifying the structure. However, it should be noted that high early strength does not mean the material can immediately bear the full design load or that curing can be relaxed. In particular, early moisture curing is crucial and should begin immediately after initial setting to prevent plastic shrinkage cracks caused by self-desiccation and moisture evaporation. Once such cracks form, they are difficult to heal.
In engineering practice, judging whether UHPC has reached the expected strength cannot rely solely on time-based experience; it must be based on the compressive strength test results of specimens cured under the same conditions. For important structures, or when determining the timing of prestress tensioning or removal of bottom formwork supports, specimen strength must be the deciding factor. Qinglong recommends that when casting UHPC on site, multiple sets of specimens should be prepared at the same time and cured in exactly the same environment as the components, to be tested for strength at different ages such as 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, and 28 days, providing an accurate basis for construction decisions. Thanks to its ultra-high early strength, UHPC can significantly shorten formwork turnover cycles and accelerate construction progress, making it especially suitable for rapid repair projects and infrastructure projects that need to be put into service as early as possible.
