The construction difficulty of UHPC is indeed higher than that of ordinary concrete—this is an indisputable fact. Its high difficulty stems not from complex procedures, but from extremely high requirements for "understanding material properties, precise process control, and technical professionalism." UHPC's ultra-low water-cement ratio, high viscosity, rapid hardening characteristics, and the presence of fibers render part of traditional concrete construction experience ineffective, requiring targeted special methods and strict management. Qinglong Group has a professional UHPC construction technical service team capable of providing full-process support for projects, from material preparation to on-site casting, ensuring construction quality.
The construction difficulty is mainly reflected in the following key stages: 1) Mixing and transportation: UHPC has extremely high viscosity, requiring forced-action mixers and strict control of mixing sequence and time to ensure uniform fiber dispersion. The mixture is highly cohesive, and its workability loss after leaving the mixer is rapid, placing stringent demands on transportation time and casting continuity. 2) Casting and forming: Due to relatively poor flowability, high-frequency vibration is needed to assist flow and compaction, but over-vibration may cause fibers to sink or paste-aggregate segregation. Thin-walled sections or areas with dense, complex reinforcement are even harder to cast. 3) Curing: UHPC has an extremely low water-binder ratio with a significant internal self-desiccation effect, making early moisture-retaining curing crucial; otherwise, plastic shrinkage cracks can easily occur. Curing requirements are much stricter than for ordinary concrete.
However, the construction difficulty of UHPC is "manageable and conquerable." With thorough construction organization design and a specialized team, it can certainly be implemented successfully. The difficulty mainly lies in "cognitive transition" and "process upgrading." While providing UHPC materials for projects, Qinglong also supplies detailed construction operation guidelines and conducts on-site technical briefings and guidance. For contractors lacking experience, we strongly recommend conducting process trials and mock-up construction, and proceeding to large-scale work only after proficiency is achieved. The key to success lies in treating UHPC construction as a "specialty project" requiring dedicated techniques and management, rather than a simple extension of ordinary concrete work.
