The parametric design workflow for GRC sculptural forms is a new working model driven by digital technology from concept to construction. Its core lies in handling complex forms efficiently and precisely through the logic of "algorithm-generated forms, associative model driving, performance simulation optimization, and seamless data transfer." In projects such as the "Dongguan Sedge Weaving" curtain wall at the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center, Qinglong Group has applied parametric design in depth, transforming artistic creativity into buildable engineering technical language.
The starting point of parametric design is establishing an associative digital model. Unlike traditional CAD software that directly draws geometric shapes, parametric platforms (such as Rhino + Grasshopper) allow designers to drive model generation by adjusting a series of parameters (such as curve control points, function variables, and logic rules). For example, the "Dongguan Sedge Weaving" pattern can be flexibly adjusted by controlling parameters such as weaving density, angle, and curve curvature. This "associativity" means that modifying any parameter automatically updates all associated geometric forms, greatly improving the efficiency of design iteration and optimization.
Performance simulation and optimization is the deepening stage of the parametric workflow. The generated forms must not only be aesthetically pleasing but also meet engineering constraints such as structure, manufacturing, and cost. In the parametric environment, finite element analysis (FEA) tools can be integrated to quickly simulate the stress conditions of GRC components and automatically optimize component thickness or stiffening rib layout based on stress distribution results (i.e., topology optimization). Building physics analyses such as daylighting and wind environment can also be conducted, making the design more scientific and rational.
Data integration and prefabrication are the final output of the workflow. The parametric model contains precise geometric information of the components, and this data can be seamlessly connected to subsequent mold CNC machining (generating CNC code), component segmentation (reasonable panel division), and quantity takeoff (automatically generating material lists). Qinglong Group has used this workflow to ensure high-fidelity conversion from complex digital forms to high-precision physical components, providing solid technical support for realizing GRC sculptural forms and truly achieving "what you see is what you get."
