The safe cleaning of stains on GRC decorative panel surfaces must follow the scientific process of "identifying the pollution source, selecting a matching cleaning agent, applying the correct technique, and providing proper post-cleaning protection"; any improper cleaning may damage the panel's surface texture or protective layer. Based on years of maintenance experience, Qinglong Group classifies common GRC stains into categories such as "dust and grime, organic stains, rust stains, water marks and efflorescence, and paint coatings," and has developed targeted safe cleaning solutions for each type. During scheduled maintenance at the Shenzhen Pingshan High-tech Zone Comprehensive Service Center, we applied this approach to efficiently remove industrial dust and bird droppings from the curtain wall surface, restoring the building facade to its original clean appearance.
This is the most common type of cleaning. For ordinary loose dust, rinsing with clean water or wiping with a soft-bristle brush is usually sufficient. For grime that has adhered for a long time, a pH-neutral cleaner designed specifically for natural stone or fair-faced concrete is required. When performing the operation, first wet the surface with clean water, then spray the diluted cleaner evenly with a sprayer, wait 3-5 minutes to let it react with the dirt, gently scrub with a long-handled soft brush, and finally rinse thoroughly from top to bottom with plenty of clean water. Never use a high-pressure water jet at close range, as the water pressure may penetrate panel joints or damage the surface.
Such stains contain organic matter and require alkaline or solvent-based cleaners. Bird droppings and tree sap can be wiped away with a neutral cleaner or a small amount of ammonia solution. Grease requires organic solvents (such as acetone or xylene) or a dedicated degreaser, but special caution is needed: always test on a small, inconspicuous area first to confirm that no surface discoloration or damage will occur. When using solvents, wear protective equipment, quickly wipe off the stain with a cloth dipped in a small amount of solvent, and rinse immediately with clean water to prevent the solvent from lingering for too long.
Rust stains mainly come from metal fittings or iron dust in the environment and can be treated with oxalic acid or a dedicated rust remover. However, acidic substances pose a corrosion risk to the cement-based substrate, so concentration and contact time must be strictly controlled, and the area must be thoroughly neutralized and rinsed after treatment. Water marks and efflorescence are caused by the precipitation of water-soluble salts and can be treated with clean water combined with scrubbing; stubborn areas can be treated with a diluted acidic cleaner (such as a hydrochloric acid solution at a concentration below 3%), followed by thorough rinsing. For stubborn rust stains or water marks that have penetrated the surface, surface grinding and renovation may be required.
This is the most stubborn type of contamination. Paint that has not fully dried can be wiped away with the corresponding thinner. For fully dried paint films, use a dedicated paint stripper (preferably in paste form to reduce running), apply it to the paint film surface and cover with plastic film to slow evaporation. Once the paint film has softened, gently scrape it off with a wooden or plastic scraper, and finally clean thoroughly with a cleaning agent. This process requires great patience to avoid scratching the GRC body with hard objects.
Any chemical cleaning will damage the original state or protective layer of the GRC surface to some extent. Therefore, after major cleaning, it is recommended to wait until the surface is completely dry and then reapply a coat of penetrating protective agent (such as a silicone-based water repellent) to restore its stain and water resistance. Qinglong recommends establishing a regular cleaning schedule for large GRC curtain wall projects, adopting a maintenance strategy of "daily inspection, quarterly dust removal, and annual deep cleaning" to maintain long-term aesthetics at minimal cost.
