Post-installation protection of finished GRC components is a critical step in ensuring the project's final visual effect and preventing secondary contamination and damage; the protection period should continue until the overall completion and handover of the project. Qinglong Group has developed a systematic finished-product protection scheme featuring “zoned protection, key-area covering, process monitoring, and responsibility assigned to individuals.” In the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project, rigorous protective measures kept the intricate “Dongguan sedge weaving” facade clean and intact throughout six months of subsequent construction, and it successfully passed completion acceptance.

Establish a Tiered, Zoned Protection Strategy

Grade the protection of installed GRC curtain walls according to subsequent construction procedures and surrounding environmental risks. 1) High-risk zones: such as building ground floors, entrances, areas near construction passages, and areas with intensive cross-operations, requiring dual “rigid protection + soft wrapping,” such as erecting protective canopies and covering with anti-collision pads. 2) Moderate-risk zones: wrap with fully covering fireproof and rainproof tarpaulins or professional protective film. 3) Low-risk zones: after routine cleaning, apply a temporary protective agent. The protection scope should extend at least 1 meter beyond the GRC area boundary.

Select Scientific and Effective Protective Materials

The choice of protective materials is crucial: 1) Surface protective film: choose a professional film that is low-tack, UV-resistant, and residue-free, to prevent the adhesive from penetrating GRC pores or leaving marks after exposure to high temperatures and strong sunlight. 2) Protective boards/corrugated boards: used to resist falling-object impact; they must be kept at a certain distance from the GRC surface, separated by flexible materials. 3) Protective tarpaulins: should be fireproof, waterproof, and dustproof. Striped canvas and other easily fading materials must never be allowed to contact the GRC surface directly, to prevent color contamination caused by rainwater leakage.

Targeted Protection of Key Areas

Special parts require particular attention: 1) External corners and moldings: install dedicated PVC or rubber corner guards. 2) Rough or textured surfaces: avoid protective materials that may snag the fibers; wrap with breathable non-woven fabric instead. 3) Joints and sealant: the sealant must be protected until fully cured (usually 7-14 days) to prevent contamination, scratching, or deliberate damage. 4) Embedded parts and connection points: apply anti-rust paint after inspection and cover with protective caps.

Establish a Dynamic Monitoring and Maintenance System

Finished-product protection is not a one-time task. Designate dedicated personnel for daily inspections, especially after high winds or heavy rains, checking the integrity of protective materials and repairing them promptly. Keep protection records, specifying the timing of protection removal and the responsible persons. Before subsequent procedures (such as welding, painting, and cleaning) begin, brief the relevant parties and clarify the precautions. Only through systematic and meticulous finished-product protection can the final quality of the GRC curtain wall be perfectly presented.
