The color durability of colored UHPC facade panels is a key consideration for their use as high-end decorative materials. Their core advantage lies in the integration of color with the matrix itself, avoiding the fading and peeling problems common to surface coating processes such as paint and fluorocarbon spraying. Premium colored UHPC achieves an exceptionally long color retention period through a triple technical guarantee of "integral coloring with inorganic mineral pigments, a dense matrix resistant to UV aging, and enhanced surface protection." The tailor-made "China Red" UHPC facade created by Qinglong Group for the Wuhan Han Show Theatre has withstood ten years of wind, rain, and intense UV exposure. Instrument testing shows the color difference ΔE value remains below 3.0, with changes almost imperceptible to the naked eye—proof of its outstanding color retention.
The color of colored UHPC comes from inorganic mineral pigments (such as iron oxide series) mixed into the cement matrix. Under high-efficiency mixing, the pigment particles are uniformly dispersed and become part of the cement stone rather than adhering to the surface. This "integral coloring" approach makes the color run through the entire thickness of the panel (at least 2-3mm), so even with slight surface wear, the internal color remains consistent, with no risk of exposing the base layer. Qinglong strictly selects alkali-resistant and weather-resistant inorganic pigments, ensuring their long-term stability in the highly alkaline cement environment without decomposition or fading.
UHPC's own ultra-low porosity and excellent impermeability provide a physical barrier for lasting color. The dense microstructure effectively blocks deep UV penetration—the main factor causing aging of organic coatings and pigment decomposition. At the same time, it prevents corrosive media carried by rainwater, acid mist, and the like from penetrating and reacting chemically with the pigments. Qinglong UHPC has an extremely low chloride ion diffusion coefficient, creating a stable chemical environment for the internal pigments.
To further improve stain resistance and color retention, a transparent protective layer can be applied to the surface of colored UHPC. Qinglong offers multiple options: 1) Penetrating protective agents: silicone-based products that penetrate surface micropores to form a hydrophobic layer, preventing the adhesion of stains while preserving the material's original texture. 2) Fluorocarbon transparent topcoat: provides stronger weather resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and self-cleaning performance, especially suitable for heavily polluted industrial areas or coastal regions. At the Hainan Convention and Exhibition Center, we applied a fluorocarbon topcoat, and it still looks as good as new after ten years.
Color durability also includes stability between batches. Qinglong's fully automatic batching system ensures precise and consistent pigment dosage in every batch. The color codes of raw materials (especially white cement) are strictly fixed. Production and curing regimes are standardized to avoid color variations caused by differences in temperature and humidity. Before leaving the factory, every batch of panels is compared against standard color plates, with the color difference controlled within the strict range of ΔE<2.0, ensuring large-scale projects are free from color variation problems.
In summary, the color durability of premium colored UHPC facade panels far exceeds that of most surface decorative materials. Their "consistent inside and out, enduring like new" characteristics make them an ideal choice for projects with long-term, high-standard requirements for architectural color. Qinglong Group uses material technology to make architectural color an eternal art.
