The sound insulation performance of perforated UHPC curtain wall panels is a complex building physics issue, with performance depending on multiple factors such as perforation ratio, panel thickness, and rear-side construction. Qinglong Group has confirmed through laboratory testing and project practice that, with rational structural design, the weighted sound reduction index of perforated UHPC curtain walls can reach 35-45dB, meeting the exterior wall sound insulation requirements for residential buildings set out in the "Code for Design of Sound Insulation of Civil Buildings" GB50118. In the Ouargla Hotel project in Algeria, through composite structural design, we raised the sound insulation performance of UHPC panels with a 50% perforation ratio to over 40dB.
The perforation ratio is a key parameter affecting sound insulation performance; typically, for every 10% increase in perforation ratio, the sound reduction drops by 3-5dB. Qinglong recommends keeping the perforation ratio of perforated panels for residential buildings within 30%, and reducing the sound bridge effect by optimizing the hole arrangement. In a high-end residential project in Shenzhen, we adopted a gradient hole design that both preserved the artistic effect and maintained the overall sound insulation at an excellent level of 38dB. Panel thickness is equally important: 20mm-thick UHPC panels provide about 2dB more sound insulation than 15mm panels.
Composite structural design is an effective way to improve sound insulation performance. The "UHPC + cavity + sound-absorbing layer" system developed by Qinglong can raise the sound reduction by 8-10dB by installing a 50mm cavity and a glass wool sound-absorbing layer on the inner side of the perforated panels. In the Nanning Wuxiang China Resources MixC project, we further adopted a composite construction combining double-glazed insulating glass with perforated UHPC, achieving an overall sound reduction of 45dB and effectively blocking urban traffic noise.
Sealing performance has a significant impact on sound insulation; even tiny gaps can cause a substantial drop in sound reduction. Qinglong adopts a multi-layer sealing design: panel joints are continuously sealed with weather-resistant sealant, while operable parts use highly airtight sealing strips to completely block air-borne sound leakage paths. All connection joints are acoustically optimized to prevent sound bridges caused by rigid connections.
Qinglong Group recommends dedicated acoustic design for projects with special sound insulation requirements, including computer simulation, sample testing, and on-site inspection. Through systematic solutions, perforated UHPC curtain walls can fully meet the comfort requirements of residential buildings, achieving a perfect unity of art and function.
