The density of GRC materials typically ranges from 1800-2200kg/m³, a characteristic that gives it significant advantages over natural stone in architectural decoration. Through 28 years of engineering practice, Qinglong Group has transformed GRC's lightweight properties into four core values: "reduced structural load, efficient construction, design freedom, and overall economy." In the Nanning Wuxiang China Resources MixC One super high-rise project, choosing GRC curtain walls instead of stone curtain walls reduced the load by more than 5,000 tons, substantially lowering the cost of the main structure and demonstrating the systematic engineering value of lightweight materials.
The density of Qinglong GRC products is strictly controlled within the range of 1950±50kg/m³, a density achieved through optimized material mix proportions. Too low a density may indicate excessive porosity, compromising strength; too high a density may mean too much aggregate, affecting fiber distribution. By adjusting aggregate gradation and fiber content, we achieve optimal density while ensuring performance. In the Wuhan Han Show Theatre project, 15mm thick GRC panels had a surface density of only 30kg/m², achieving an extreme level of lightweighting.
Natural stone typically has a density of 2500-2800kg/m³, 1.3 to 1.5 times that of GRC. This means that for curtain wall panels of the same area, GRC weighs only two-thirds or even half as much as stone. This weight advantage translates into significant structural savings in high-rise buildings, and in the renovation of existing buildings, it can even determine a project's feasibility. In multiple renovation projects by Qinglong, GRC has been the only choice to replace heavy, thick stone.
The lightweight properties of GRC directly reduce the requirements for supporting structures: keel cross-sections can be reduced by 20%-30%, and the number of connectors can be decreased; hoisting equipment requirements are lowered, improving installation efficiency by 30%-50%; transportation costs drop, allowing more material to be shipped per trip. In the Shenzhen Yirui Biotechnology Building project, these advantages worked together to reduce the overall cost by more than 15%.
The advantages of GRC lie not only in its light weight but also in its designability. By adjusting mix proportions, we can produce lightweight GRC with a density below 1800kg/m³ for interior decoration, as well as heavyweight GRC with a density above 2200kg/m³ for applications requiring sound insulation or stability. This designability, which natural stone cannot match, gives architects greater creative freedom.
