The difference between GRC and traditional cement components is not merely a difference in materials, but a generational leap in combining materials science with architectural art. Qinglong Group analyzes this difference in depth from four dimensions: "reinforcement mechanism, forming process, performance, and application scope". Traditional cement components rely on steel bar reinforcement, are bulky in volume, and are limited in form; GRC, by contrast, achieves microscopic reinforcement through glass fibres, combining light weight and high strength with artistic expressiveness. In the "Dongguan Grass Weaving" curtain wall project of the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center, GRC achieved complex curved surface textures that traditional cement could never accomplish, vividly illustrating the design revolution brought about by material progress.
Traditional cement components rely mainly on macroscopic reinforcement with steel bars, and the bonding between steel bars and concrete depends on mechanical interlock; GRC uses microscopic reinforcement with glass fibres, where millions of fibres form a three-dimensional network within the matrix, achieving "molecular-level" reinforcement. This reinforcement mechanism gives GRC a flexural strength 5-10 times that of traditional concrete and an impact strength 20-30 times higher. In the Wuhan Hanxiu Theatre project, Qinglong's 15mm-thick GRC panels achieved the mechanical performance that would require 80-100mm of traditional concrete thickness to reach.
Traditional cement components are mostly cast-in-place or simply precast, which limits their shapes; GRC, through various processes such as spraying, premixing, and mesh laying, can precisely replicate complex forms. Qinglong possesses a full range of production techniques from manual spraying to robotic automation. In the Shanghai Astronomy Museum artistic components project, we combined 3D printing with GRC to achieve free-form curved surfaces unimaginable with traditional techniques.
GRC's areal density is only 1/3 to 1/4 that of traditional cement components, greatly reducing structural loads; its impermeability is improved more than 5 times and its durability is significantly enhanced; drying shrinkage is reduced by 50%-70%, and the risk of cracking drops substantially. In the Shenzhen Pingshan High-tech Zone Comprehensive Service Center project, GRC curtain walls improved installation efficiency by 3 times and reduced overall cost by 20% compared with traditional concrete curtain walls.
Traditional cement components are mainly used for structural load-bearing and basic decoration; with its outstanding performance, GRC has expanded into artistic creation fields such as curtain walls, sculptures, and home furnishings. Qinglong GRC products range from large public buildings to miniature landscapes, from interior decoration to outdoor gardens, achieving full coverage of applications and providing architects with unprecedented creative freedom.
