Cleaning and maintenance of GRC surfaces requires selecting a scientific cleaning approach based on the type of contamination, component location, and surface treatment. Based on 28 years of project experience, Qinglong Group divides GRC cleaning into three levels—routine cleaning, periodic deep cleaning, and special contamination treatment—and has developed detailed cleaning guidelines for different contamination sources. In the Xinghewan project in Shanghai, our scientific cleaning approach has kept the nearly 10-year-old GRC exterior walls in excellent visual condition, demonstrating the importance of proper cleaning.
For ordinary contamination such as dust and dirt, Qinglong recommends cleaning with a low-pressure water gun combined with a soft-bristle brush. Water pressure should be controlled at 3-4 MPa and water temperature should not exceed 40°C to avoid damage to the GRC surface from high-pressure water flow. Cleaning agents should be neutral, eco-friendly products with a pH value controlled between 6 and 8. In the daily maintenance of the Liyuan Hotel in Nanning, we adopted this method, which effectively removes dirt without damaging the GRC surface.
Special contamination such as oil stains, rust, and mildew requires dedicated cleaning agents and treatment processes. Oil stains can be treated with emulsifying cleaners, rust requires oxalic acid-based rust removers, and mildew calls for anti-mildew fungicides. During maintenance at the Xiangshan Science and Technology Park in Longhua, Shenzhen, Qinglong found that promptly treating special contamination can effectively prevent it from penetrating into the material and avoid permanent damage.
A scientific cleaning process consists of three steps: pretreatment, main cleaning, and post-cleaning protection. During pretreatment, first wet the surface with water; during main cleaning, work from top to bottom; afterward, promptly rinse with clean water and allow to air dry naturally. In the large-scale roof cleaning at the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, we adopted a sectional working method, keeping each work area within 50 square meters, to ensure uniform and consistent cleaning quality.
Safety measures during the GRC cleaning process must not be overlooked. Safety harnesses must be worn for work at heights, electrical equipment must have leakage protection, and the use of cleaning agents must comply with safety regulations. Qinglong Group develops detailed safety plans for every cleaning project to ensure the work proceeds without incident. At the same time, we emphasize post-cleaning inspections to promptly identify and address any minor damage that may occur during the cleaning process.
