Ensuring the structural strength of UHPC hollow-out components requires a systematic solution across four dimensions: “hollow-out pattern design, stiffening rib layout, fiber distribution optimization, and production process control.” Drawing on 28 years of practice, Qinglong Group has developed a complete set of reinforcement technologies for hollow-out components: optimizing the hollow-out ratio and pattern shapes through finite element analysis, installing concealed stiffening ribs in stress concentration areas, using directional fiber fabric or increasing fiber content to improve crack resistance, and refining the casting process to ensure uniform fiber distribution along the hollow-out edges. In the Ouargla Hotel project in Algeria, the UHPC hollow-out panels we produced achieved a hollow-out ratio exceeding 50%, yet through perimeter reinforcement and steel fiber toughening, the flexural strength still reached over 12MPa, perfectly balancing decorative effect with structural safety. Ensuring the strength of hollow-out components is a perfect combination of art and technology.
The design of hollow-out patterns directly affects stress distribution. Qinglong uses parametric modeling and finite element analysis to avoid placing hollow-outs in high-stress areas of components, and designs pattern edges as smooth curves rather than sharp corners, significantly reducing stress concentration. In the wood-effect light-transmitting panel project for the New World Century Plaza on Nanjing East Road in Shanghai, we optimized the distribution pattern of tens of thousands of light-guide rods through computer simulation, ensuring the artistic effect was achieved without sacrificing structural integrity.
For large-span hollow-out areas, Qinglong employs concealed stiffening rib technology, installing grid-patterned stiffening ribs on the back of the panel, with rib height typically 1.5-2 times the panel thickness. The rib layout is based on load analysis, mainly arranged along the principal stress directions, improving stiffness while avoiding any visual impact on the front face. In a large hollow-out screen project for a cultural center in Shenzhen, rational rib grid design kept the deflection of the 6m×3m components within L/300.
The edges of hollow-outs are stress concentration areas that require special fiber reinforcement measures. Qinglong locally increases the fiber content in these areas (from 2% to 3%), or lays a layer of directional fiber fabric. For ultra-thin hollow-out components (thickness<10mm), UHPC may even be composited with carbon fiber grid fabric to greatly improve impact resistance. This differentiated reinforcement technology ensures the safety of weak areas.
The production of hollow-out components requires special process control. Qinglong uses secondary vibration technology to ensure uniform fiber distribution under complex geometric conditions, and flexible molds to prevent edge damage during demolding. In the hollow-out railing project for the Yangshengtang Pharmaceutical Hangzhou Industrial Park, we also developed a dedicated repair mortar for hollow-out areas, precisely repairing micro-defects to ensure finished product quality.
