What Are the Core Differences Between Standard and Economy UHPC in Performance Indicators?

The core difference between standard and economic UHPC lies in the balance between performance positioning and cost control, mainly reflected in four aspects: “compressive strength grade, fiber content and type, complexity of the cementitious material system, and long-term durability indicators”. Qinglong Group defines standard UHPC as an all-round product with compressive strength ≥150MPa, using high-quality steel fibers, cementitious materials including silica fume and special admixtures, and excellent durability; economic UHPC, on the other hand, appropriately relaxes the strength requirement (≥120MPa), may use synthetic fibers or low-dosage steel fibers, and optimizes the cementitious system to reduce cost, focusing on meeting specific non-load-bearing applications or those with slightly lower durability requirements. In the Nanning Wuxiang China Resources MixC project, the main facade uses standard UHPC curtain wall panels to ensure long-term performance, while the interior decorative moldings use the economic type, achieving a perfect balance between cost and effect.

Grading of Strength and Toughness Indicators

Standard UHPC pursues the limits of performance, with compressive strength typically targeting 150-200MPa, flexural strength 20-30MPa, and extremely high fracture energy. Economic UHPC aims to meet basic service requirements, with compressive strength stable at 120-150MPa and flexural strength 15-20MPa; on the premise of ensuring safety, it saves material costs by lowering the performance ceiling.

Differentiated Configuration of Raw Material Systems

Standard UHPC spares no cost, using high-grade cement, highly active silica fume, and, when necessary, high-performance admixtures such as nano SiO₂; the fibers are usually high-quality hooked-end steel fibers with a content above 2.5%. Economic UHPC may use more cost-effective cementitious material combinations, or partially replace steel fibers with synthetic fibers such as PVA, and the fiber content may be reduced to 1.5%-2.0%.

Differences in Long-Term Durability Considerations

Standard UHPC is designed for 100-year service life projects, with extremely stringent durability indicators such as impermeability, carbonation resistance, and freeze-thaw resistance. On the premise of ensuring basic durability, economic UHPC may relax certain extreme-environment tolerances—for example, adjusting the requirement of 300 freeze-thaw cycles to 150—making it more suitable for indoor or mild environments.

Choosing between standard and economic types is a comprehensive decision based on project importance, environment, budget, and service life requirements. Qinglong Group offers a full range of products to help customers make the wisest choice.
