The lifting plan design for large-scale UHPC artistic forms (typically referring to pieces weighing more than 5 tons or with unconventional dimensions) is a highly comprehensive specialized engineering task that must follow the principle of "safety first, planning ahead, simulation verification, and precise execution." Its scope covers all-around planning including "mechanical analysis of lifting points, custom lifting fixtures, path simulation, and emergency response plans." For the lifting of the giant UHPC sculpture—15 meters tall and weighing 28 tons—in the central hall of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, Qinglong Group assembled a special task team composed of structural, lifting, and surveying experts: finite element analysis determined the 4 optimal lifting points; a combined lifting fixture of box-type steel frame spreader beam and flexible slings was designed and fabricated; BIM technology was used to simulate the entire process from factory departure, road transport, and site entry to aerial rotation and final positioning, ultimately achieving precise one-time installation with an error of less than 5mm. The lifting of large artworks transforms precision manufacturing on the ground into a perfect dance in the air.
Force analysis of the component itself under lifting conditions must be carried out to ensure that no excessive tensile stress or local crushing occurs at the lifting points. Lifting points should preferably be located at structurally reinforced areas (such as rib intersection points or embedded steel frame nodes), and implemented through embedded high-strength lifting lugs or special internal threaded sleeves. We conduct destructive testing on lifting lugs with a safety factor of 1.5.
Lifting fixtures are customized according to the component's shape and center of gravity. For irregular, thin-walled, or fragile components, the combination of "steel frame distribution beam + multiple chain hoists" is widely adopted to distribute loads evenly across lifting points and enable fine adjustment of the aerial posture. Slings must be wide-body nylon slings to avoid damaging UHPC edges and corners. All lifting fixtures must have statutory inspection reports.
In a BIM environment, a complete scene is constructed including the crane, components, surrounding buildings, and overhead pipelines. Every movement of the entire lifting process is simulated to check for collision risks and to optimize the crane position, boom length, and slewing radius. This can identify and resolve more than 90% of on-site issues in advance. We also conduct "trial lifting" drills, holding the load 20 cm above the ground for a static inspection.
Large-scale lifting involves multiple parties including the general contractor, supervisors, the owner, and municipal traffic authorities. Permits for road occupation, power outages, and other matters must be processed in advance. Detailed emergency response plans must be formulated, covering handling procedures for sudden weather changes, mechanical failures, communication interruptions, and other situations. A chief commander must be appointed on site to issue unified orders, ensuring every operational step remains within a controllable range.
Therefore, a successful lifting plan is far more than selecting a crane that is large enough. It is a comprehensive embodiment of project management capability, technical calculation expertise, resource coordination capability, and risk control capability. Qinglong Group manages every large-scale lifting operation as an independent engineering project, accomplishing the most effortless and perfect placement with the most rigorous attitude.
