Testing for chloride ion content in GRC panels is a core control measure for ensuring their long-term durability, particularly in preventing corrosion of steel reinforcement or embedded parts. It must be performed using scientific chemical analysis methods in accordance with national standards such as the Standard for Durability Design of Concrete Structures (GB/T 50476) and the Chemical Analysis Methods for Chloride Ions in Cement Raw Materials (GB/T 176). Qinglong Group has established a three-level testing system covering raw material intake, the production process, and finished product dispatch, ensuring that chloride ion content (calculated as a percentage of the mass of cementitious materials) remains below the stringent internal control standard of 0.02%. In coastal projects in Hainan, rigorous testing control eliminated the risk of chloride salt attack at the source, forming an important foundation for the project remaining intact after ten years of use. Chloride ions are an "invisible killer" of steel reinforcement, and testing is the only way to detect them.
Drill representative powder samples from the GRC panel (passing a 0.63mm sieve) and dry them at 105±5°C to constant weight. Accurately weigh a specific mass of the sample (typically 5g) and use the acid-soluble or water-soluble method (as specified by the standard) to fully extract the chloride ions into solution. Deionized water must be used in this process to avoid introducing interference.
The Qinglong Group laboratory primarily uses two national standard methods: silver nitrate titration (GB/T 176) is relatively simple to perform, with the endpoint determined using a potassium chromate indicator; potentiometric titration (GB/T 50476 Appendix) uses an electrode to measure the potential jump, delivering more precise results and stronger resistance to interference, making it especially suitable for dark-colored samples or samples with complex compositions. We regularly calibrate our testing equipment to ensure data accuracy.
Chloride ion control starts at the source. Every batch of cement, sand, admixtures, and mixing water entering the plant is tested for chloride ion content, and non-conforming raw materials are firmly returned. During production, contamination from sea sand, chloride-containing accelerating admixtures, and the like is prevented. For finished panels, samples are regularly taken and sent to qualified third-party testing institutions for verification, forming a closed loop of testing reports.
Standards set different limits for chloride ion content depending on the service environment. Qinglong Group's internal control standard (≤0.02%) is far stricter than the national standard requirements for general environments, providing a greater safety margin for our products, particularly those used in severe conditions such as coastal areas and environments where de-icing salts are applied.
Chloride ion content testing is serious, highly specialized technical work. Through a well-established laboratory testing system and quality management processes, Qinglong Group ensures that every GRC panel leaving the factory meets durability requirements, giving customers complete peace of mind.
