How Do Outdoor UHPC Panels Resist UV Aging? Weatherability Research and Qinglong Group's Long-Term Data

The outstanding UV aging resistance of outdoor UHPC panels is one of their core advantages as long-lasting exterior cladding materials. Tracking inspection data from Qinglong Group on projects completed 5-10 years ago, such as the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center and the Wuhan Han Show Theater, show that under long-term UV radiation, high-quality UHPC exhibits an annual color stability variation (ΔE) of ≤0.5, strength retention of ≥95%, and no chalking or flaking on the surface. Its excellent UV resistance stems from the inherent properties of inorganic materials: cement hydration products and quartz sand aggregates are extremely chemically stable and are not decomposed by UV radiation. Meanwhile, the addition of ultra-fine admixtures such as silica fume fills the capillary pores, greatly reducing the potential aging risk caused by moisture and oxygen penetration. In standard accelerated aging tests (QUV 3000 hours), the performance degradation of Qinglong UHPC panels is far below the requirements of relevant standards. Material Nature Determines High Weather Resistance

The main components of UHPC (cement, silica fume, quartz sand, and steel fibers) are all inorganic materials whose chemical bond energies are far higher than the photon energy of UV radiation, and therefore cannot be directly destroyed by UV. This is fundamentally different from the mechanism by which certain organic polymer materials undergo chain scission and aging under UV exposure.

Surface Treatment Further Enhances Durability

Although the matrix itself is UV-resistant, to improve stain resistance and color durability, we usually apply a fluorocarbon or polysiloxane topcoat to the surface. These coatings themselves offer extremely strong UV resistance (weathering life ≥10 years), providing an additional protective layer for UHPC and facilitating later cleaning and maintenance.
