When UHPC curtain walls are combined with glass curtain walls, four key coordination challenges must be addressed: interface design, load transfer, thermal performance, and visual transition. The core lies in achieving structural independence, continuous sealing, thermal compatibility, and aesthetic unity. Qinglong Group successfully applied a "UHPC vertical sunshade + glass curtain wall" system in the Shenzhen Pingshan High-tech Zone Comprehensive Service Center (a Luban Award project): spacing was optimized through BIM clash detection (UHPC panels set 300mm from the glass surface), stainless steel transfer connectors were installed to absorb differential deformation (ΔL=±5mm), EPDM rubber gaskets provided airtight and watertight sealing, and panel divisions were unified in style (1.5m module). This combined system not only achieves 30% energy savings but also creates rich light and shadow effects on the facade. Combined application is an art of 1+1>2, requiring refined design.
UHPC and glass have different coefficients of thermal expansion (UHPC approximately 10×10⁻⁶/°C, glass approximately 9×10⁻⁶/°C), so flexible connections (such as silicone structural sealant) are required to allow relative movement. Loads must transfer independently to the main structure to avoid mutual restraint. Through finite element analysis, we ensure that the two do not interfere with each other under wind and seismic loads.
Interfaces are weak points for waterproofing and require a multi-layer sealing design: weather-resistant sealant on the outside, a cavity in the middle, and airtight sealant on the inside. In the Hainan Convention and Exhibition Center project, we developed a dedicated "Ω"-shaped gasket that accommodates ±8mm deformation.
The heat transfer coefficient of the combined system must be recalculated to avoid thermal bridges. UHPC sunshades can reduce heat gain in glazed areas; we optimize panel angles and spacing in conjunction with energy efficiency calculations to achieve passive energy savings.
Successful combined applications stem from forward-looking system design. Drawing on multi-material integration experience, Qinglong Group enables different curtain walls to dance in harmony.
