Replacing a single damaged UHPC curtain wall panel is a delicate operation that must follow the four-step standardized process of "assessment and positioning, safe removal, precise installation, and sealing restoration" to ensure construction safety, high efficiency, and minimal impact. As an industry leader with 28 years of deep expertise in the UHPC field, Qinglong Group has developed an efficient replacement solution based on maintenance practices at national-level landmark projects such as the Wuhan Hanxiu Theater and the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center: first, damaged panels are precisely located through drone infrared scanning and tap testing (positioning error ≤±5cm), with safety warning zones and fall-protection nets set up; then, specialized cutting tools (such as diamond wire saws) are used to remove the old panel non-destructively along the panel joints, avoiding disturbance to surrounding panels; during new panel installation, three-dimensionally adjustable brackets (adjustment range ±15mm) achieve millimeter-level positioning; finally, weather-resistant sealant (movement capability ≥25%) is used to restore the joints, and a water spray test is conducted to verify the sealing performance. In the curtain wall maintenance of the Shenzhen Yirui Biotechnology Building, we completed a single-panel replacement in just 4 hours, cutting downtime by 70%, with no color difference or misalignment between the new panel and the existing curtain wall. A scientific process is the guarantee of maintenance quality and efficiency.
Before replacement, a comprehensive assessment of the damage extent is required: micro-cracks (width<0.2mm) can be repaired by grout injection; chipped panel corners or through-going cracks require full panel replacement. The Qinglong Group maintenance team is equipped with endoscopes and ultrasonic flaw detectors to accurately determine internal damage. Meanwhile, the new panel's dimensions, color, and embedded parts are checked for consistency with the old panel to ensure seamless replacement. In the replacement project at Nanning Wuxiang China Resources MixC One, we retrieved the original panel data through a BIM model, keeping the dimensional error of the custom new panel within ±1mm.
During removal, non-destructive techniques are prioritized: first, the mechanical connections of the brackets are released, and then a suction-cup robotic arm smoothly takes down the old panel. For firmly bonded panels, a micro hydraulic splitter is used to avoid violent vibration. The key is to avoid damaging the joints of adjacent panels and the waterproofing layer. Qinglong Group's patented "vibration-free removal method" achieved zero collateral damage in the roof maintenance of the Hainan Convention and Exhibition Center.
New panel installation requires re-checking the substrate flatness (≤2mm/2m) and using the slotted holes of the brackets for three-dimensional fine adjustment. Before sealant application, the substrate must be thoroughly cleaned to ensure a bonding strength ≥0.5MPa. We require sealant joints to be full and continuous, with a width deviation ≤±1mm, and a water spray test (water pressure 0.3MPa, lasting 15 minutes) is conducted after 24 hours.
Although single-panel replacement is a localized operation, it tests the manufacturer's technical reserves and emergency response capabilities. Qinglong Group has established a nationwide 24-hour response mechanism and maintains an inventory of commonly used panels to ensure the lasting integrity of customers' curtain wall systems.
